    Need help understanding "The Passion" from a non religious jew...

    I watched The Passion last night and am trying to undersatnd a few things.. I am not religious at all and truly do not understand all the anti-semitism that came from this movie..

    In the movie:

    1. What did the jews have to do killing Jesus?

    2. what is anti-semitic about the movie??

    3. who were the other 2 guys put on the crosses and killed and what reason were they put there?

    4. who was the mean looking lady in the black vail? i'm guessing satin or the devil?

    5. were the kids that were messing with the traitor guy devils?

    Anyone who can explain what the movie is trying to say would be greatly appreciated..

              Howard,

              I went to a catholic school so I understood the movie but the whole time I was watching it I was thinking that anyone not familiar with the new Testament would be completely confused.

              1. The Jews wanted him killed because he was a heretic
              2. Read above
              3. Criminals
              4. Mary the mother of Christ

                  who were jews in the movie??

                  4. The mother of christ was a lady in a black veil in the movie but who was other woman with the freaky eyes? She was the one in the opening scene who put that snake out when Jesus was praying..

                  5. who were the kids then? in the movie there faces were changed to look like devils or something when they were picking on that traitor guy...

                      You've got me thinking about that 5th one. They might have been. I certainly don't remember that from the bible but I think I remember the scene in the movie now and they were a little freaky.

                          The jews were the guys in the ornate clothing campaigning against the Romans for his demise.

                          I don't know the answer to number 4. Both 4 and 5 are things religious scholars would know. They aren't common Christian teachings. The movie certainly requires a solid understanding of the bible. I guess that is why they sold millions of DVDs the opening weekend. I can see one Sunday school after another pausing the movie over and over to give lectures to terrified children.

                              so in the movie the people who bribed the traitor with the $30 whatever were jews?? If so that would explain the anti-semitism..

                                      watching the movie again won't help..and actually reading the bible or new testament would not help either--i wouldn't understand anyway..

                                          Could be Maria Magdalena. She was with Jesus when he was put on the cross but Bible is describeing her as a bad person (prostitute).

                                          But I don't know. I am Muslim.
