Something else I noticed after installing SP2..

Could be a coincidence but now all mail I download to Outlook Express will NOT show images. Any image shows as broken.

Anyone else?

Yes, the block images check box was ticked. However, I've been getting images in my email for years until recently. Just wondering if SP2 is the culprit.

yes it is. i'm using outlook express and above the panel where you read the emails, is a message that images are blocked, and you click it to view images. it's to stop spammers knowing your email is live when your email program downloads the images i think.

I've read that ms has added that to sp2. That's cause of spammers using images to check if your email addy is alive

Nbritte 09-02-2004 06:26 AM

yes service pack 2 blocked the images it is one of the default setting

stocktrader23 09-02-2004 06:27 AM

Good to know.

I've noticed it too. This is what it says at the top of each message:

"Some pictures have been blocked to help prevent the sender from identifying your computer. Click here to download pictures."

johnbosh 09-02-2004 06:28 AM

is it better then sp1?

Heh are you slow? That's one of the security features in SP2. It's so that spammers can't tell you have received their spam.

I notiched it aswell but figured it out quickly since there is a line of text that explains it just above the message :winkwink:

Someone would have to have a pretty elaborate system to tie a tracking number for each individual email to the img tag and then set the web page itself to know that number and track when each one is downloaded. I just always saw it as a neusence protector but a lot of people get around it now by including the binary of the image in the email itself and then using it so it isnt downloaded seperate
