actually i might be a tad on the hysterical side, it's not exactly pitch black - by the way what the hell does 'pitch black' mean? black is black, ain't no other shades of black, what does 'pitch' mean/

its only 5:10am here (wisconsin) , but its still pitch black outside.

'pitch' is an oily tar-like substance, used in medieval times to coat arrows or catapult projectiles. Since it was flammable, slow burning & sticky, it was great for sending fire into castles or villages. Its also black. Now you know where 'pitch black' came from

Pitch is a substance, native peoples used it to light torches like tar. So it's ablack, tarry substance. In that case, "pitch black" makes sense.
