living in new york city?
for those of you who live there, do you like living there? is it possible to find a job and be able to pay rent ok if my entrepreneurial endeavors go under? my girlfriend moved tehre for school and its hitting me a lot harder than i thought it would. i have thoughts of moving there in about a year or so from now. she goes to school in brooklyn at pratt so thats the area i would live. :helpme :(

nobody is awake there i guess
|
this would be a bump ;\
|
its possible to find a job, but be aware that the cost of living is much higher there... what kinda job are you looking for?
|
unless your girl is some ugly skank she will have a new boyfiend by now :2 cents:
|
not easy i think :helpme

a job?
what are you good at, it really depends. Living in a decent section of brooklyn is about 1100 a month. What type of job? |

Expensive as hell, be ready to pay from $1600 to $2000 for a small hole to live in Brooklyn and just about anywhere in NY... if you go to live in a bad part you could find a small apmt for about $1200

Crazy expensive to live there though. |
you should be able to find a job in the city pretty easily i would think. i dont know though.
do you not make enough doing your online stuff to support yourself in nyc? |

NYC area rent is $$$ even for a small shit hole.
Try the outlying places like brooklyn or bronx or forest hills. All within a subway ride into NYC. I am on the island , i personally dont like the city life tbh I am more of the suburb type guy |

Granted it was in the Village, but still...not the best of arrangements. I'd do what Juicy said. Look in Brooklyn. There's always Rockland County too. Always a train, so the city is close by...and you're out in "the country" with big state parks and homes with yards. |
yeah it may work out like i said her school is in brooklyn so thats where i would probably wanna live anyway
|
I live in the village right now and pay $1600 for a largish studio apartment that would probably go for about $400-500 in a small town. But hey, that's city life. I love living here. If you can't pay your way with your online business, it's not too difficult to get a good paying job here.

Don't forget, you can find roommates. When I first moved here and was uncertain about my financial situation I found some cool roommates through craigslist and got a big 3 bedroom place in brooklyn and was only paying $700/month. Roommates can be a pain in the ass but it's a great way to get acquainted with the city and figure out your options from a better position
