Going grocery shopping soon... need suggestions!

I always eat the same stuff and I'm getting sick of it. Burgers and chicken are usually in 2 of my 3 daily meals, I need some variety!

Help me out, what do you eat a lot or really like that I might enjoy? Salmon was recommended several months back and now I am always picking it up, it's great. Need another nice addition like this!

I like pretty much anything but can't eat anything high in dairy content, a little bit is ok.

:helpme

chicken kebab skewers with veggies on them... great on the grill

quiet 09-01-2004 12:26 PM

are you into Italian? always up for fresh pasta and sauce, along with some sliced and toasted galic-buttered bread and a good bottle of red - mmmm.

C_U_Next_Tuesday 09-01-2004 12:29 PM

London broil is a good peice of meat.. I use it for steaks on the grill, I slice it up and put in in spaghetti sauce and cook all day long..beats the hell out of hamburger. I use it for stroganoff too.

I say invest in a crock pot if you havent yet and start making soups and stews.. one pan and you can leave it to cook on its own... you can always freeze the leftovers and have them later on down the road.

I love my vacuum sealer.. it keeps leftovers in the freezer tasting fresh for a year or two. (not that food lasts that long in my house..lol)

Porkchops are great on the grill, fried, or baked. And don't forget STEAK!!!

Not into wine but the rest sounds great. You already have me hooked on salmon, guess pasta is next!

I'll just move to Canada so I can bug you more often on more good food to try, haha. I'm going to buy a freezer in a couple weeks and then order a bunch of steaks and such to stock it with, I'm actually pretty excited. How lame is that?

Vitasoy 09-01-2004 12:32 PM

BBQ ribs, I never get tired of it. :)

Napolean 09-01-2004 12:32 PM

cant go wrong with steak

noodles, pasta sauce, parmessan cheese

pick up some turkey, provolone cheese, mustard and bread (awesome quick sammich).. throw the turkey and cheese on a plate and microwave it 30 secs.. then put it on the bread and slap some mustard on there.

dijorno deep dish pizzas are great too

shrimp cocktails are nice

but cant forget drinks, pick up some southern comfort, any kinda vodka and plenty of orange juice.. mixed together makes a nice drink ;)

im forgetting a lot.. but this should suffice for now :)

Spunky 09-01-2004 12:33 PM

I am a food nut, of course I have a crock pot! I love making pot roasts with carrots and potatoes, one of my favorites. Once the weather starts to cool down I'll put it to work more, have been wanting to do a chicken.

It's really amazing I'm not fat. Food is one of the few things that really makes me happy, haha. Couple good food with cold beer on a hot day and I'm in heaven.

I think I'll grab some pork chops and brats today.

One of my favorite things in the crockpot is an old standby: Stew meat, Lipton onion soup mix, shrooms, cream of shroom soup and a few glugs of wine (some in the pot, some in a glass).

I love that stuff! :thumbsup

Also get some stuff and make some Mexican meals. You've probably got a few aisles in the store for true Mexican ingredients :)

And of course the pasta stuff sounds great too. Now *I'M* hungry and I have nothing here. Thanks.

Odie 09-01-2004 12:40 PM

I got a great curried crab recipe!!

or grilled shrimp on the barby with onions, peppers and pinapple..

or some braised ribs on the barby..can u tell i like the barby??:thumbsup

Venison is insane. My dad goes hunting with a group of guys on a farm in an area that is over-populated with deer. The group of 5-7 guys get about 10-14 deer every year. He usually has some of his cut canned, when I'm lucky I get a jar. Actually I still have some up in my cabinet, need to eat that up!

It's fantastic to use for open faced sandwiches. Slice of bread, mashed potatoes on top smothered in venison with gravy. Ohhhh my Goooodddd! Haha I better eat before I go shopping, this could be a very expensive day!

quiet 09-01-2004 12:52 PM

venison is soooooo good. damn.

C_U_Next_Tuesday 09-01-2004 12:55 PM

fuck.. I am hungry as hell!.. loading up an elk burger on the grill now..

cheers and good eating to all today :glugglug

I think I have heard you mention that you Bar-B-Q from time to time. I recently bought a bottle of KC Masterpiece Hickory Brown Sugar Bar-B-Q sauce. It is absolutely the best off the shelf Bar-B-Q sauce I have ever tasted. From here on out I will never buy a different kind. You might want to add it to your shopping list.

iwantchixx 09-01-2004 12:57 PM

sly, look for something called souvlaki. It's kabobs made from all pork with good seasonings on it. You'll love it. Also, try some butterfly cut pork on the BBQ.

If you actually have a BBQ get a seasoned small chicken and a rotiserie kit. You'll melt from the goodness.

One of my familys fave things in the crockpot, is to thrown in some spaghetti sauce and chicken pieces whichever your favorites are and cook it all day long....Over spaghetti and with garlic bread and a salad it is amazing.....

I agree. I tried that stuff once and fell in love. Just can't find it anymore. So now I just use off the shelf rub mostly.

CDSmith 09-01-2004 01:01 PM

For the barbecue....

tuna steaks
salmon steaks
pork tenderloin
bacon-wrapped filet mignon
smokies, the big fat juicy kind

interesting idea. I'd do that right now if it weren't for the beef stew brewing in the slow cooker right now.

loverboy 09-01-2004 01:28 PM

before you do, why not dine in a Hotel you always wanted to eat and order some nice meals you crave. it will give you an idea what to pick in the grocery.

DrGuile 09-01-2004 01:36 PM

I do Mustard Pork chops...

Take 1/4 oil, 1/2 mustard, 1/2 dijon mustard, mix well, add some garlic and some salt. put your chops in it, leave them to marinate for a few hours, cook on BBQ or stove for 15min or so. Serve with rice or a baked potatoe.

You can change the ratio dijon/regular mustard depending on your taste and financial situation ;)

Hmm...maybe I had better buy out the stock in the store before that happens to me.

If you're a fish eater, then halibut steaks and tuna.
They sell raw veggies in easy to use bags, already cleaned and ready.
Fruit, in season

Depending on where you live, seafood is always welcome.

Steak

Chicken

Jewelry for yourself and your woman. :)

I usually eat dinner around 12-1, probably another half hour or so. Trying to decide if I want anything with it.

Would you like a full report in the morning? Haha.

I bought pork chops today along with my usual stuff, but I haven't had pork chops in a long time so I'm definitely looking forward to those. I think I'll take out my last jar of venison pretty soon too, I haven't had any since visiting my dad last Christmas.

quiet 09-01-2004 11:54 PM

heh, just curious. i usually have my last meal late at night as well :glugglug

Ok, the verdict is in. The sauce was very tasty, but I don't know about "the best". I'll buy it again for sure, though I'm always trying different brands and styles.
