Ikea stampede kills three
 

RIYADH ? Thousands of shoppers drawn by a voucher offer rushed into an Ikea branch in western Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, causing a stampede that killed three and injured 17, security officials said.

A Saudi and a Pakistani were among those killed, the officials said. The nationality of the third person killed was not given.

After furniture giant Ikea's branch in the Red Sea port city of Jidda announced that it was offering credit vouchers to the first 250 clients Wednesday, some shoppers camped outside Tuesday night. Once the doors opened, the crowd surged forward, causing the stampede.

Ameen Jamal, a senior executive for IKEA Saudi Arabia, said more than 8,000 people had gathered outside the store prior to the opening. He didn't have other details.

they built the worlds biggest Ikea about 5 min drive from me, they did major construction off our main freeway including overpasses, tunnels etc. just to have ample roads for the new store, id hate to see what it will be like when they open their doors, the parking lot in the size of 50 football fields.

Ikea has nice gear for home offices on the cheap.

Ikea has the best kitchen gadgets. I own a ton of them. Some of their storage ideas are great too.

Really sad news for thread number 350,000

According to Swedish media the gave away 50 vouchers to the first visitors. Each voucher was worth about $133. Apparently local authorities said there had been 70 000 people trying to get in.
The que covered the entire parking lot of 22 000 sq. m....
