- Why is it then when a school scores low on the annual SOL's, they are given less funding? And the schools that score higher are awarded more? Doesn't that seem twisted to anyone?

Isn't that whole 'texas miracle' thing wrapped up with performance-based remuneration? Instead of being honest about their drop-out rates (over 50% in many places) they just get creative about their status and magically slash the dropout rates to 2%.

For what it's worth, financial incentives have certainly increased thinking in schools... well, thinking about how to fake good stats so they can cash in. :1orglaugh

I guess so, since this republican administration has taken our giant surplus and turned it into the largest deficit in history in less than 4 years.

I hold the students responsible for the quality of education. You can learn as much as you want to; teachers will always cater to an eager student.

Yup you just expell, transfer, or send kids to special education classes until you are at the correct numbers.

I never wanted him to begin with and I usually side with Republican based principles. All in all it doesn't really matter, people will always complain no matter the income. Which is about 85% of the reason I don't give a shit anymore.

They are given less funding because it's just being wasted. More money dosen't equal better education.

I partially agree with you here. Unfortuantely a lot of kids don't even know the basics.When I was in high school there were plenty of kids who could barely read. These schools don't need more $, they need to spend their money better. Bigger gyms, new fieldhouses, bigger salaries for teachers and falculty don't equal a better education. Unfortunately no one has the power to say the system is fucked up, the teachers are over-paid, and what you are doing right now isn't working. And yes, parents play a big role -- something no amount of money can fix.

Arnold is a novalty Governor, not someone to be taken serious. Kinda like when Sonny Bono was a Mayor. Cute, but thats about it. They fact that they enlisted Arnold as a spokes person for the Republican Party shows the lack of Party depth Its sad really.

I am so glad I renounced my long time Republican stand ( 23 years ) Im so embarressed by what the Republican Party has become.

Teachers are overpaid? How much does the average K-12 teacher bring in?

I could be wrong, but from what I understand teachers down there barely make enough to keep gas in the car and food on the table.

So he's going to abolish income, sales, property and gas taxes in California? Because afterall it just goes to the government that doesn't know how to spend it.
