If GWB is re-elected I am moving to Canada...
I am getting prepared just incase. What are some things I should know about the great snowy tundra? I know about the "Eh?" thing and the "Process" with a long "O" sound...anything I should be sure to pack? Extra long underwear? Salmon bait?

My dad said the same thing about Kerry
|
You should move to Canada anyway.

If you're not Asian, you'd best have a degree in your aresenal.
Get ready to pay the worst taxes you can pretty much imagine. You do get free healthcare, well not realy free you still have to pay. Chances are you'll die on a waiting list if anything serious ever happens to you though. God forbid you'll ever need an MRI. Liberals run this country. Up here in Canada, we let them do it for as long as they'd like to run. Coincidentally, it's about the same number of years as it takes our third world media to dig up the dirt on them. Then they pass the torch to the next crook. I'll be non resident soon enough, maybe I can write you a letter giving you my place up here? |

Heavy taxes on cigarettes, gasoline, luxury cars, booze, etc etc. Federal Sales Tax added to Provincial Sales tax can be greater than 15% (in some provinces). Here in BC is'a only 14.5% on everything you buy. You do get to have somewhere around 1.30 of our dollars for one of yours though. |
Nick: Costa Rica.
That's where you want to live if you leave the USA. Trust me. |

http://www.canchoice.com/selection.html Immigrating to Canada - How are immigrants selected? Essentially, there are five basic classes of immigrants - skilled worker, business, family sponsored, live-in caregiver and refugees. Skilled worker class A skilled worker is someone who has at least one year of work experience within the past 10 years in management, professional, technical, skilled trades and paraprofessional occupations as outlined in the National Occupational Classification. Generally, applicants who are employed in these occupations would have completed a higher level of education. So the trend favors applicants who have post secondary credentials with several years of skilled work experience. Here are the selection grids for skilled worker class: Education (max. 25 points) Official languages of English and/or French (max. 24 points) Experience (max. 21 points) Arranged employment approved by HRDC* (max. 10 points) Age between 21 and 49 (max. 10 points) Adaptability (max. 10 points) *Human Resource Development Canada For Immigration Canada to consider your case, you have to score 67 points on the above selection grids and more. Want to find out if you qualify? Please complete our FREE evaluation form. Business class To qualify as business immigrants, you must demonstrate you have the ability, experience and resources to establish or invest in a business. There are three categories of business immigrants, Investors, Entrepreneurs and Self-employed. Investors This program, Immigrant Investor Program or IIP, came into effect on April 1, 1999. Under this program, an applicant has to make a CAD$400,000 investment to the Federal Government (Receiver General) of Canada for five years. This investment is fully guaranteed by the participating provincial and territorial governments. After five years, the money is refunded to the investor without interest. You may borrow from Canadian financial institutions to make the CAD$400,000 investment. Contact us for details. In order to qualify for this program, the applicant must have: A net worth of at least CAD$800,000 acquired through his/her own business endeavours or investments Successfully operated, controlled or directed a business or commercial undertaking Invested CAD$400,000 with the Receiver General of Canada Score a minimum of 35 points on the modified selection system Business experience (max. 35 points) Age (max. 10 points) Education (max. 25 points) Official languages (max. 24 points) Adaptability (max. 6 points) Investors can apply at any one of the nine overseas Canadian Business Immigration Centres: Beijing, Hong Kong, London, Paris, Berlin, Seoul, Singapore, Damascus, & Buffalo. Contact us for the appropriate centres to use. Investors may settle in any province, except Quebec. This is because Quebec has its own Immigrant Investor Program. Under the Quebec Immigration Investor Program, the investors must intend to settle in the province of Quebec. Once the application is accepted, Quebec Government will issue the applicant a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ). The applicant then submits the CSQ together with the other applications to the Canadian Embassy. Benefits of the Immigrant Investor Program: -Does not have to start a business or manage a business -Investment is guaranteed by the government -No immigration terms and conditions are imposed -Once accepted, all family members are allowed to immigrate -You can choose to live anywhere in Canada (outside of Quebec) Entrepreneurs Entrepreneurs must be experienced business persons. They are required to make a substantial investment in a business or commercial venture in Canada, thereby creating employment and contributing to the economy of Canada. They are also expected to be actively involved in managing the business. So, to qualify as entrepreneur immigrants, the applicant must: Have a net worth of CAD$300,000 Intend and have the ability to establish, purchase or invest in a business within three years of arrival Contribute significantly to the economy Actively manage the business Employ one other Canadian permanent resident or citizen Score a minimum of 35 points on the modified selection system (similar to investor class) The entrepreneurs are usually admitted pursuant to terms and conditions, which require the entrepreneurs to establish or purchase and operate a business within three years of arriving in Canada. The immigration officials monitor the entrepreneur's progress through regular reporting intervals. Self-employed Self-employed persons must have the intention and ability to create their own employment. They must also make a significant contribution to the cultural, artistic or athletic life of Canada. They can create their own employment by purchasing a farm in Canada. Traditionally, this is for individuals who have special skills, e.g. professional athletes, artists, painters, actors, dancers, musicians, writers and farmers. It is not intended for those seeking employment. The business can be a sole-proprietor, a partnership, a corporation, or any other form of business organizations. Family Sponsorship Canadian citizens or permanent residents age 19 or over, living in Canada, may sponsor ?close? family members to immigrate to Canada. These family members include: Spouse Fiancé (e) Dependent son or daughter Adopted dependent children Father or mother Grandfather or grandmother Relatives like brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, who are orphans unmarried and under 19 Nephews and nieces may not qualify for family sponsorship, but as skilled worker applicants, they will score points based on the relatives in Canada factor. Live-in Caregivers Immigrants who come in under this special program are individuals who have the qualifications to care for children, elderly and disabled in a private household. This is because there is a shortage of live-in care workers in Canada. The successful applicants receive an employment authorization, allowing them to work in Canada as live-in caregivers. After two years, the applicants then apply to become permanent residents provided they meet certain requirements. There are three main requirements. Successfully completed the equivalent of a Canadian high school education. Either six months of full-time training or 12 months of experience in paid employment in a field or occupation related to the job you are seeking as a live-in caregiver. E.g. early childhood education, geriatric care, pediatric nursing or first aid. Ability to speak, read and understand either English or French. An important requirement of the program is that the applicants must live in the employer's home. Refugees Canada maintains its humanitarian tradition by accepting a limited number of refugees. Canada is a signatory of the UNs' 1951 Geneva Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and its 1967 Protocol. Good luck! :1orglaugh :glugglug |

Go in montreal toronto and vancouver and you won't feal much difference except for crime rate and how ppl talk to each other
|
Good luck with that. I am married to a Canadian and I have booted out of the country several times and have had a nightmare with Immigration for the past two years.
AND I actually have a fucking legal reason to live here. I have even had my congressman and two senators offices helping me out and we still cannot get anywhere with these moron fucks. It doesnt matter if you have a spotless record, or a legal reason, or anything else that would help you. They have a strict "NO AMERICANS ALLOWD" policy. They want you to come spend the night, spend a lot of money and then go back home. |

Heh, it's funny how americans think they can just waltz in and become 'nucks.
Despite what your media (I refuse to call them journalists any more) might tell you, we don't let in just any old random riff-raff. You gotta either have skills, money, or family to get in here. A person with a C-average high school diploma, a basic grasp on english and a glorious history of occupying assorted of trailer parks is definitely going to have a hard time getting in... which invalidates roughly 60% of GFY right there. :1orglaugh |

Basically what happens to get booted, its easy. There are no guidelines immigration officials have to follow to allow or deny your entry to Canada. They are allowd to make their own snap decisions that affect peoples entire lives. Even though most immigration officals are just college students working in summer jobs. So they have the power to decide if they like you or not. If they like you your in, if they dont your out and you have to go petition the consoluate to allow reentry. Its all bullshit. I dont even want to be here. I am simply stuck here until my damn wife finishes school next year. I have tried pleading with these jerk offs to just give me an extended visitor pass because as soon as she graduates we go on our honeymoon and we move stright to the U.S., but they still insit on my becoming a "permanent resident" even though I wont be here long enough to even be granted permanent residency. (i.e. it is over a year waiting time in Buffalo to even have your package opened and another year or two for review even after you have paid your $2,000+.) I have no problem with most Canadian people, I have got along with most people here and fit in quite well. A number of people, especially my wifes family, have gone out of their way to make me feel at home while I am here. But the fucking goverment has such a chip on their shoulder about not being as powerful as America its unreal. And they have decided to take it out on us indiviually because they cannot bully us they way they wish. I look at the Canadian goverment as the 3rd grade bully that always gets his ass kicked by the 5th graders on the playground so on the way home he beats up little 1st graders. :) Thats basically what they do. |
