Have you lost friends or biz contacts due to your political belifs?

I lost an entire group of friends because I will be voting for Kerry...people I've known for over 2 years.

are you serious...i dont think they were friends to begin with.

Michael O 08-31-2004 11:31 AM

Fuck them they are not worth wasting your time on.

I discuss politics with my friends often donīt know why our political views are very different and we know we canīt bring the others back from the dark side

Well I think it's pretty apparent now they weren't.

Yeah it was lame...honestly I tried to stay out of political discussions with them because I knew where they stood but they got off on that whole swift boat thing one day and I couldn't keep quiet anymore.

Only person I talk politics with is my dad. Whenever my friends start talking about it I just pretend I'm not around. My views are much different than most people and since most people have a very hard time discussing and not arguing about heated topics, I choose to make my night less stressful by pretending politics and religion don't exist.

Peaches 08-31-2004 11:50 AM

That's absurd! My family and friends are about as diverse as they come and while we debate A LOT we still understand that we each have our own thoughts and beliefs.

They were NOT your "friends" :(

Tom_PMs 08-31-2004 11:58 AM

The topic is about friends or biz contacts.. Not sure if you mean there was a contract broken or an agreement smashed because of it. (like someone being "fired" lets say).

In either case, I think when people can't see past the simple fact that we're not all the same, you've got problems.

Gotta accept people on their qualities that apply to the business you're doing. Not on their political or other beliefs.
Having said that, if someone crosses your own "tolerance" line, well you've gotta do what you've gotta do.

I had a vitenam vet as an employee once, and he used a racial slur (LOUDLY) about an asian customer once and I chewed his ass out right then and there in front of the whole store. He knew where I stood then and kept his opinions to himself while at work. I could have fired him very simply if I wasn't emotionally mature, but the fact was he was good with what he did.

Anyway..

awwww, I'm your friend...and I'll also be voting for Kerry...this will be the first ballot I mark either democrat or republican on for the national election....if McCain had gotten the republican nomination last time, he would have been my first ....hell, if he runs in 2008, he can look forward to my vote...

doesn't sound like they could have been very good friends if that is the case. But arguments happen.

I do make it a point to avoid some political and religious discussions with some of my friends though. I have a jewish friend that will get pissy and start talking shit if I put on Southpark when he is drunk, although he loves it when he is sober. :1orglaugh

I can understand.. seen people loose friends online once one finds out the other is black - or friends find out your gay. having a political opinion can do the same thing... wait until Kerry gets in.. then they will come back and say.. you were right

During the 60s my father had a very successful garment manufacuring business in the East End of London. Most of his clients were Jewish.

After fighting in the Second World War he became a pacifist.

He was asked to give money to Israel for the war against the Arabs. He refused and they took there business else where.

I'm proud he was a man of his word and ethics.

no, never! politics can`t break the friendship
