NEW YORK -- Already a box office sensation, filmmaker Michael Moore got another loud reception Monday at the Republican convention. This time, it was boos.

When Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., told the delegates about "a disingenuous film maker who would have us believe that Saddam's Iraq was an oasis of peace," they knew he was referring to the maker of "Fahrenheit 9-11." The film, which savages Bush's Iraq policy, has set a box office record for documentaries, grossing $115 million so far.

McCain's comments prompted prolonged booing and chants of "Four more years." Many of the delegates faced Moore, who was seated in the press seats at Madison Square Garden because he is writing a column this week for USA Today.

Moore seemed to relish the attention, thrusting his arms over his head, laughing and saying, "Two more months."

Asked about McCain's remarks, Moore said, "I can't believe they're dumb enough to bring up the film and help its box office."

What a waste. Shame many people were swayed to believe the so called facts in that movie. Pretty comforting to listen to Guiliani and McCain, that have a backbone and tell it like it is.

The Unocal company in Texas had been willing to discuss a gas pipeline across Afghanistan with the Taliban, as had other vested interests. Moore mentions that the Taliban visited Texas while Bush was governor, over a possible pipeline deal with Unocal. But Moore doesn?t say that they never actually met with Bush or that the deal went bust in 1998 and had been supported by the Clinton administration.


The Bin Laden family (if not exactly Osama himself) had a close if convoluted business relationship with the Bush family, through the Carlyle Group.

I haven't watched the movie to even know what to research. There are many reasons I'm not voting for Bush and I didn't need Michael Moore or anyone else to make up my mind for me. Bush is a fucktard IMO and I've thought so since the first time I saw him speak.

Michael Moore presents one side and calls it a video op/ed piece. Fox news presents the other side and calls it news. Neither is accurate in portraying the whole picture, but which is more dangerous? At least Moore is honest about his bias.

haha, actually, I'm considering trading votes now that I'm in Florida. In Texas it didn't matter. But I really hate to cast a vote for Kerry. My conscience will never recover. When you vote for the lesser of two evils, you're still voting for evil.

I've seen Moore in numerous interviews call the film an op/ed piece rather than a documentary... though the word documentary is the closest category it fits into, so the word is used as a convenience.
