does any camera top the Nikon D70? if not does anyone know the best place to purchase a package deal with a lens or two and cam?

Ritz has a deal for like 1149.99 with a 18-50mm or 1299.99 with an 18-70mm at their stores, don't know what they have it on their site for.

Assuming you are talking generally available SLR's and not boutique cameras:

IMHO the Canon 10D tops it...And certainly the new 8MP 20D tops both.

hasselblad

anyone have the Canon 10D or 20D? what makes it better than the D-70 other than a few more pixels on the LCD and a tad higher image resolution

I love my D70 but had to send it back to get fixed over a backfocus problem that it came with. They let several crates of them out of the gate with this problem and I just happen to get one. :)

I use the Canon 10D's but have no idea how they compare to the D70's. I think you'll probably be happy with either :)

I've got the Canon D10. Go for the D20!
Get the 28-135mm lens with image stabilizer & ultrasonic focus, and you'll be very happy!

about 2mons ago someone posted some images taken of an asian girl splashing water and the camera caught the droplets of water in mid-air that was very impressive. i believe the d-70 was used for that, don't know which lens but would the canon have the same shutter speed to capture images likes that?

... i have the 10D, i had the D60 from Canon also, they are great cameras...but Nikon is also a great one...
Usually Pro's choose the camera based on the LENSES they already have...i have maybe 10-15.000 $ in Canon lenses, so, until it strikes me with some really HUGE improvement, Nikon is not an option for me.
Anyway, i worked with D70 also, and actually i prefer Canon for some reasons: first, the Power Grip, holds 2 batteries, so this means more "juice" also, much much easyer to take pics vertically. Nikon does not and it will never have a Power Grip on D70...second: the Canon images are less noisy on higher ISO, actually the 800 ISO images are very usable, so it means you can shoot in dimmer light when you need to...

Thanks, good info.

So if you're starting which company has the better lens offereing? Low light shooting is important to me sometimes. Suggestions for the the Canon and Nikon on a Lens choice?

Need wide angle to telephoto.

Shoot parties sometimes, that's the hardest because of lighting. Trying to put everything in one lens - prolly not gonna work.

..that would be Canon, wider variety of lenses, but for some really good ones you should expect tp pay more that for the camera..my choices are:
1. Canon Zoom Super Wide Angle EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM Autofocus Lens - $1,369.95 at BH
2. Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Autofocus Lens - $1,169.95 at BH... maybe a 28- 135 IS instead of that one... OR if you want only one lens...the 24-70 / 2.8 is an all arounder, given the 1.6 factor of the 10D it's more or less equiv. of a 35 - 120 in real world.

wait a bit for the 20D... real players rewievs must come in a few weeks all over the internet..., for now, all you can find are "maybe's" ....or if you can afford, go for the Mark II, that's a real killer..
