Newbies, Newbies, Newbies (please read)
I know that most of this has been said before but I am going to repeat it because of some of the threads I have seen across the past few days.
Newbies.... GFY is not necessarilly a Newbie friendly board (neither are Oprano, Netpond, Ynot or any of the other big boards) There are plenty of people here that will give you excellent advice when you ask a newbie question, there are equally as many that will delight in giving you bad info just for the fun of it or point you in a direction where you will be taken advantage of. The adult internet is a business just like any other. In a business, you should not necessarilly count on your competition to provide you a map to success. There are times when a competitor will be friendly and give good advice, there are times when they will give you the map to failure. Some suggestions: Before trying to become famous on GFY, learn the business. Go to a newbie friendly board (there are several) and learn the ropes of both the business and how too survive on the boards (Voltar's place at http://www.vnwr.com is the place I reccomend but others will reccomend Toms and several others) Before posting a slam on an established business or an established poster, make sure you are in the right. If you come out swinging and you are in the wrong, you will be squashed. You might not think that matters because, afterall it is just a message board but I guarantee you that if you fuck up on GFY, Oprano, Netpond, YNOT or any of the other big boards, your reputation will precede you to the other boards. Be HUMBLE ! You are new to this biz. Act it ! Don't go running your mouth about shit you don't know. If you word your post correctly, you will usually get some pretty good feedback. If your post sounds like an attack, you will probably get attacked back. BEWARE !! You are a lamb amongst wolves, a guppy amongst sharks, a new asshole just waiting to be fisted. Most folks on the boards are on them to make money. If we can make money by offering you good advice great. If we can make money by offering you bad advice, we will probably do that too. If you are a gallery builder, free site builder, linklist owner, TGP owner, Many folks on the boards will rightly view you as competition. There is a finite amount of surfer traffic on the internet. Of the total amount of surfer traffic, a certain amount is looking for porn. We are all trying to get those porn surfers to click our link and join a site from our page. If we can give you advice to keep the surfers away from your site, we will probably give you that advice. If you are a programmer, designer or other that are trying to get business from adult webmasters, again, many folks will rightly view you as competition. If we can steal your cusomers by giving you bad advice, WE WILL !!! If you think this business is an easy, no work method at making bling, you are WRONG !! The days when you could just throw up a site and make lots of cash overnight are pretty much gone from the current model. It doesn't mean that they won't be back again, but right now, in the current environment, it will take work to build your empire. There are many amongst us who will think nothing about draining your wallet and leaving you crying in the threads about what bastards we are. There ae equally as many that will sit there and laugh their asses of at another newbie biting the dust. Thats about all I have to offer in today's edition of "Pay it forward". Remember, if you decide that GFY is the best place to get your newbie info (or Oprano or any of the other big boards) You have been forewarned. Nuff said. (as always, this is all IMHO) |
Damnit now you warned them all away! Misinformation is my friend :glugglug
|
eh you only have 142 posts, not important enough to read that. :1orglaugh
|

you are right on Sarettah and I am glad to see people like you in the industry, it sort of balances things out and puts them in better perspective:2 cents:

interesting post ....
hmmmm im kinda scared, but i no now not to trust anyone here so its kinda good |
I am new to this business. Can someone tell me how to make a lot of money. :1orglaugh
Someone also asked what IMHO means. This is a good question because I do not know what this word means as well. It looks like it says I'M HO, but the only problem is "ho' isn't a real word and I do not believe it is in the best grammar either. There should be an apostrophe between "I" and "M" if that is what it meant. Bad bad bad This revelation kind of scares me. :xomunch |
:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup
definetly worth reading tank'S:) |
Traffic IS limited ... why would I want 5000 new guys to take a part of the pie ? A lot of people are comming in this industry (as a hobby) but a very few are comming out

This isn't newbie friendly??? http://www.netpond.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=9 And this??? Are you serious? |

But, yes, there are definitely newbie friendly areas on Netpond as well as on sme of the other boards. But, you've been around long enough to know that netpond was the original home of the sharks in this biz (at least the ones that post) and that some of them still hang around waiting to get a taste of newbie flesh. Netpond is probably (imho) one of the safest of the BIG boards for newbies. In my original post, I did not intend to denigrate any of the boards (mentioned or unmentioned). All of the boards have their purpose and some are definitely more newbie friendly than others. |

lololol.... apparently I no longer know how to edit a post :)

Does it make you a somebody if the person who started this thread has your name written on his penis? If so, I may be set.
|
Wait a doggone minute here, Sare.....are you saying this isn't the place to come and get filled with warm fuzzies? :eek7
Aw, you're probably wrong since you have such a low post count. :winkwink: |
I would post, but being a nobody with a low post count, it would just be ignored.... :Graucho

Hey Sarettah,
You do make some pretty valuable points in there ... it is important for newbies to know where to go to get good info. You also make some not-so-valuable points. I'm not sure when you last visited YNOT, but it is possibly the most newbie friendly board on the web. Sorry, let me rephrase that - most friendly webmaster resource on the net. There is a big difference between somewhere like GFY - a place where people hang out to tell each other to :321GFY and ynot, where we help webmasters build their sites and traffic on a daily basis. Stereotyping in general is just not a good idea ... another lesson newbies should learn :) twinkley |
I think its poor taste to come spam someone else's board here.
First you tell people how GFY and Ynot and all these other places aren't "newbie friendly" and then you spam another board and tell us that its better than the rest. That's like putting an article in the New York Times telling all their readers that The Washington Post is a better newspaper and the Times is feeding them lies. Get your head out of Voltar's ass and go generate your own traffic instead of trying to steal it from other webmaster boards. :321GFY |
Quote:
And as I said earlier, I was not meaning to denigrate other boards. YNOT has a good newbie board, but it is not the main board and yes, it tends to be more newbie friendly than GFY or Oprano. *************************************** Ok. Let me do it this way. Newbies, all the boards out there are safe. Go there, none of them are trying to make money off of your ass, they are all there as charitable, not for profit organizations and will go out of their way to help you make all sorts of money in this biz even if it costs them money to do so. All Adult webmasters (especially those that have been here since 94-96) are very interested in your well being and want you to be reaqdy to take over when they leave the business. None of them have anything but your best interests at heart. The web is safer than walking down the street !!!! So come on in, piss on people, no matter who they are, because that is the way to get your name known. Go out and announce to all the boards that you are a newbie, that you have thousands to spend in this business and just ask how best to spend your money out there. You will get some great answers and the adult webmasters union will guarantee that you get what you deserve. trust me. :Graucho |
Good advice... I was 15 years old when I would lurk around YNot (was the only real consolidated resource site besides Netpond at the time) and knew well enough then to just shut my mouth and open my ears. Nobody EVER questioned my age.
Now at 23 I still try to stick with the same basic principles. Can't see why it's so hard for young people today to figure out. :helpme |
vnwr.com is indeed a great source for newbies

If it's a good newbie board, why shouldn't he promote it as such? |
