Wow, one of the smaller firms is located like down the street from me and offers more than double that of my current bank (RBC). Waterloo Regional Credit Union doesn't sound so bad. Anyone have experience with smaller CU's like this? Do these investments fall under the FDIC protection or are they not covered?

strange that TD Canada Trust isn't on the list.

5-Year Stepper GIC
This investment features an attractive five-year interest rate, so you're protected for the full five years if rates go down. But you also get the option of redeeming all or a portion of your investment on each anniversary date of the purchase of your GIC. Interest is compounded annually and paid at maturity. The minimum investment amount outside of your RSP is $5,000 and $2,500 within your RSP or RIF.

1st Year 1.85%
2nd Year 2.60%
3rd Year 2.80%
4th Year 3.20%
5th Year 5.70%
Effective Annual
Yield 3.23%

Check out ING Direct, I've found their rates better than most banks because they don't have to set up physical locations all over.
