Are you saving up for Retirement?

Just wondering what % of webmasters think ahead to retirement.

I have a little bit of stock and some cash. I guess I have to step up on the SEP IRA contributions a bit.

What's YOUR retirement savings plans?

When I'm close to retirement age I will see a few wealthy relatives pass away and inherit their money.

That's definitely one strategy. Statistically, depending on the country you're from, it may not be that random... many developed countries have shrinking populations/low birthrates...thereby insuring WINDFALL income to the younger generation.

My entire family is 6 people, of which 2 I will inherit by law.

I got a 401k that I stick 10% of my income into. I also have a bunch of stocks that I play with.

Though I'm still young I'll think about it. Maybe 5 years from now I'll be more serious and start saving for the future.

laura99 08-31-2004 01:43 AM

Yes I have a plan. Can't depend on Social Security being there, that's for fucking sure!

I probably save about 75% of what I make after taxes. I live pretty damn cheap. :)

Its all in investments + I make my max RRSP contribution a year.

I've got some cash sunk into stocks, - tobacco, utilities, telecom and manufacturing mostly. I won't touch tech or medical stocks ever again in my life, when google IPO'd, I made sure I was away from my computer and my trading account.

I'm 31 now, by the time I'm ready to retire (in a couple of years) I'll have a nice little nest egg ready to hatch. I don't do any "traditional" retirement plans, no sense in it since I plan on retiring way before my time, I hold the paper and reinvest the dividends on my stock when I get the checks.

Then when I retire I'll get to surf porn sites instead of building the damn things :Graucho

i do have savings, but only death will retire me

bjjb 08-31-2004 05:02 AM

Nope I love from check to check and barely get by. Why do you think im trying to make a go of it in THIS business? Mainstream life sucks ass.

scoreman 08-31-2004 06:42 AM

yes,
also for the wife....
and the kids......

Raf1 08-31-2004 06:43 AM

I have a lot of years to go, before retiring, so I'm not worried yet

sherie 08-31-2004 06:48 AM

Of course. Anyone who isn't thinking about it or putting money away/investing etc., is silly. The younger you are the better off you'll be and especially in this business!!

Jill_J 08-31-2004 06:52 AM

I`m too young to think about it now:)

401(k) and the lovely, lovely compound interest.

BTW -- Didn't someone famous say "compound interest" was like the 8th wonder of the world or something ?

strobi 08-31-2004 07:02 AM

As soon as I left college I started saving for retirement. The whole point I'm hanging out here is to retire secure.
