Serious Question... Why Dont More Straight Webmasters..

Promote gay market sites?

Just wondered why there are not many straight webmasters promoting gay paysites when there are thousands of gay webmasters promoting straight sites?

Could some of you please explain this phenomenon to me i just dont get it :2 cents:

Money is money whether it is made from a straight surfer or a gay surfer isnt it?

Or does it come down to the fact that a lot of straight webmasters simply do not understand how to market gay surfer traffic?

Regards,

Lee

I am all for promoting what sells. Doesn't matter to me :2 cents:

Dagwolf 08-28-2004 11:36 AM

I made a couple of gay freesites experimentally. I just didn't like doing it; I wasn't able to judge from the pics what was sexy and what wasn't (to a gay person)... had the same problem with writing text.

Did you ask for any help?

I wouldn't know how to market a gay site to get the most out of it. And like Dagwolf said, I have no idea what turns a gay man on, so I have no idea what i would do.

baddog 08-28-2004 12:18 PM

you have to know what you are marketing, and most straight guys don't know how to market gay sites, just like trying to sell "for women."

I know a lot of straight guys that try to sell gay, some succeed, some don't

Doctor Dre 08-28-2004 12:29 PM

Cauz it's kinda sick to us ... I don't like / appreciate seeing cock daily ... so hourly ? no thx

I'm not homophobic... i have some people that I know are gay and everything . I don't mind gays, I just don't wanna see cocks

BradM 08-28-2004 12:31 PM

It's hard to promote a niche if you're not interested in it yourself. For example I couldn't do granny, gay, shemale, pissing etc etc.
If you can't handle looking at the content how can you expect to market it effectivly?

:thumbsup

Even if you can look at it, you don't know what's attractive about it to others. Makes it very hard to market.

dennisthemenace 08-28-2004 12:50 PM

I have a few gay domains and send a little traffic to gay sites.. But I don't really work on 'em...

For me personally, being a straight guy - I can't honestly say I love what I do if I'm looking at guys all day..

:2 cents:

frank7799 08-28-2004 12:52 PM

1. Honestly, gay is somehow suspect to me. So I never really thought about promoting it.

2. Reading your thread maybe IŽll give it a try. But htere are some problems, as mentioned before:

- I donŽt know what content would really do;
- I wonŽt find the right text descriptions.

So i think it wonŽt work for me without help.

I used to own rumpwranger.com, coloncowboy.com and homohillbilly.com and intended to create a whole gay cowboy suite of sites but my heart wasn't in it.:1orglaugh

I think only metrosexual webmasters can bridge this gap :1orglaugh

Gotta draw the line somewhere, and drawing it right before guys balls deep in other guys asses seems like the place to put my line down.

fris 08-28-2004 12:56 PM

i am a straight webmaster i run a gay tgp
i submit gay galleries to sublimedirectory :)

bringer 08-28-2004 12:58 PM

Some people can get away with doing it. Some even do it well. It's just not for all straight webmasters, that's all.

I don't sell Japanese Bukkake either. Too often it looks like flat out abuse to me.

Well it would seem that most of the concerns seem to be that many of you dont know what sells or how to market the sites.

Again how many of yu have actually asked for help with this market?

Lee

dready 08-28-2004 01:31 PM

People like to do work they enjoy.

Reak 08-28-2004 01:33 PM

Good question Lee.

Personally i dont like looking at Gay content + i dont do gallery submissions. I would never run a Gay site because the content makes me sick.

I like watching at nude girls with shaved pussies.

I heard the gay market is a good one, one that converts so i would say goodluck making money with it, you probelly enjoy it too.

So do i with the straight market

Promote what you know. Sounds pretty simple? How can you promote something if you know nothing about it, know nothing about what the people looking for it want?

yeah I am sure you had trouble figuring out the cowboy part huh LOL

J/K I couldn't resist, the temptation was too strong LOL

Joesho 08-28-2004 01:43 PM

Lee, I would like to talk with guys that run strictly gay only TGP's and gain some perspective from them, I have an idea... can we have a sit down in Vegas?

Nate-MM2 08-28-2004 01:46 PM

I'm straight and make gay sites (as well as straight sites)... and know a lot of others that do the same.

I may not know the market inside out, but the Queer As Folk DVD box-set helps me stay somewhat on the cutting edge of trends & lingo.

It comes down to the fact Lee that many younger webmasters see promoting gay sites as a reflection on them, and since they're so insecure they'd rather go an add another teen site to the ten million already out there.

Money is money. I've written about this on countless occasions on pornresource.com.

So I take it you only promote softcore sites? No male-female hardcore?

Money is money to me and gay money spends just like straight money.

Heaven help us if the new gay sterotype is Brian Kinney:glugglug

I watched Dynasty so I know what rich folks were like in the 80's

Doc911 08-28-2004 02:47 PM

I got my first 500 dollar affiliate check from a gay site I promoted on a amateur girl site.

I put a banner on her site and said something about how she likes to see all the big cocks.

I use it mostly just to understand what certain terms mean.... seems they show up there months before urbandictionary.com and the like.... :helpme

bigdog 08-28-2004 03:15 PM

what is the biggest gay tgp out there?

emmanuelle 08-28-2004 04:33 PM

Because 1/2 these guys are homophobic, insecure 18 year olds living in their mom's sewing room. They only know how to sell teen, and have no imagination about anything else. To them a 24 year old is mature-lol

Perhaps because they dont enjoy it? To some, looking at gay pics grosses them out to the point of gagging.

I've made some gay sites and what not.. but really I've found it to be a bit of a waste of my time. I guess I am not marketing to them correctly. :(

magicmike 08-28-2004 06:48 PM

I didn't for about the first year when I got involved in adult.

When I did start, I wished I had started earlier.

Peaches 08-28-2004 10:09 PM

I've heard from many gay men that they can tell immediately when a site (gallery, SEO site) has been done by a straight man or woman.

Why bother? I have a ton of other niches I know how to market already.. I don't want to make gay sites for the sake of having gay sites.

I don't know shit about marketing to gay surfers but Ijust bought my first domain for a gay male site a few days ago.

Will be visiting the site in your sig for info soon.

SykkBoy 08-29-2004 12:13 AM

I just bought a couple gay domains and am going toplune headfirst into the market

I'll be hitting you up Lee to pick your brain...of course I also have a lot of friends in the gay community, so I'll have a couple them come over and give me some tips and pointers...

kmanrox 08-29-2004 12:21 AM

also more than half of the str8 webmasters on the net are in it because they like to talk about how they get to look at naked chicks all day... and they jerk off a few times a day to it... gay sites would damage their ego and bragging rights...

they think with the wrong head...
