True.

I have an African Grey. They are all very social birds, and need a lot of attention. The first thing that I would sugguest is that you get his wings clipped. It is a little cruel, but with the time, money, and love for the pet that is invested, it is worth it.

Second get a VERY BIG cage. And dont leave him lovked in it all day. That is one of tha main reasons that they scream like that.

My bird is loose in the house all day, until bed time.

But the thing that will take the longest, and a lot of patience is to potty train him. Teach him to shit on the bathroom sink or toilet. If you dont, he will shit where ever he wants when he wants.

My bird will go to the bathroom in the sink, or on her cage. We have been working on this for 6 years, and she still some times goes elsewhere.

Doctor Dre 08-29-2004 12:47 AM

Nice . i wish I had one arround my desk ... too bad my GF hates them . Her mom use to have one and she tried to kill it couple times

Webby 08-29-2004 12:57 AM

Nice bird!! :thumbsup

Wait till he repeatedly tells you to fuck off in front of guests :-)

Was he born in your country or imported? I got offers from Canada and the US to bring back parrots that are indigenous to Costa Rica which are no longer wanted as pets (you got a lifetime friend there!). But this is not practical cos it *could* wipe out the local population because of disease and there is enough problems maintaining the population without some other infections creeping in.

If anyone wants a parrot - they have all kinds - there are "sanctuaries" in Canada and the US where you can collect one!:thumbsup

Nothing cruel about it. As long as only the flight feathers are cut, the bird feels no pain, and it still has enough control to glide to a graceful landing should it decide to think about flying.

It would be cruel to leave a captive bird fully flighted, allowing it to potentially fly into windows or, worst case, actually escape and die from exposure, accident, predator, etc.

If you don't know how to trim the flight feathers, have an avian vet do it and/or show you how. It's a little scary unless you know what you're doing, and COULD be lethal (if you cut a blood feather). But it's really not difficult.

haha.. hope you have fun with your new bird!

My friend has a green parrot like that. When that bird screeches, it is ear piercing, and they do screech often.
