Video Killed the Radio Star, Buggles

Quote:

I heard you on the wireless back in Fifty Two
Lying awake intent at tuning in on you.
If I was young it didn't stop you coming through.
Oh-a oh

They took the credit for your second symphony.
Rewritten by machine and new technology,
and now I understand the problems you can see.
Oh-a oh

I met your children
Oh-a oh

What did you tell them?

Video killed the radio star.
Video killed the radio star.

Pictures came and broke your heart.
Oh-a-a-a oh

And now we meet in an abandoned studio.
We hear the playback and it seems so long ago.
And you remember the jingles used to go.
Oh-a oh

You were the first one.
Oh-a oh

You were the last one.

Video killed the radio star.
Video killed the radio star.

In my mind and in my car,
we can't rewind we've gone to far

Oh-a-aho oh,
Oh-a-aho oh

Video killed the radio star.
Video killed the radio star.

In my mind and in my car,
we can't rewind we've gone to far.

Pictures came and broke your heart,
put the blame on VCR.

You are a radio star.
You are a radio star.

Video killed the radio star.
Video killed the radio star.

Video killed the radio star.
Video killed the radio star.

Video killed the radio star.
(You are a radio star.)

Great song but I personally prefer the remake that was made by The Presidents of the USA

Loryn 08-27-2004 10:54 PM

Oh, I remember the early MTV days.... What a magical time!

Anyone remember "Girls on Film" by Duran Duran?

I always wondered how the first song on MTV could be about video killing the radio star ? It also was a prediction that never happened but it's weird they wrote the song before it was even a popular thing.

Or did I totally miss the point of the song ?

if you are referring to Money For Nuthin' . . . how could they write a song about MTV before it even launched?

actually, no it didn't.

Video made the radio star even more popular, resulted in higher sales for the star . . . . . video may have killed radio, but it sure did not hurt the star

I remember that one. Do you remember when MTV wasn't 24 hours a day?

stevecore 08-28-2004 02:13 PM

another side note of MTV info, Beck's "where it's at" was the first to be shown on MTV2

I claim otherwise.

There was a time when the lyrics and sound made the star, you did not need the look.

Now you need the look, and they can generate the rest.

Always will be exceptions.

I counter with Menudo and a side of new kids on the block.
