Did you know that a BMW M3..........

....Can easily go 140 KPH in 1st gear?

Then, when switched into second....It buries the punk that is trying to race you from the center lane with his mom's car.

I've never seen Cambo so scared. :1orglaugh

StuartD 08-27-2004 12:26 PM

Yes I did, but don't tell Cam that jact told me that :winkwink:

C-Bass 08-27-2004 12:30 PM

Did you know that it also has faster piston speeds than an F1 engine?

:2 cents:

BradM 08-27-2004 12:31 PM

YUM ///M

Platinumpimp 08-27-2004 12:31 PM

Yea definately, because an M3 goes exactly 108kph in 2nd gear at 8200rpm

pornguy 08-27-2004 12:32 PM

UUUMMMM

If you say so, I would love to see a vid of that. Do you have one of them??

Minte 08-27-2004 12:35 PM

i wish my M3 went that fast :(

WiredGuy 08-27-2004 12:38 PM

You two aren't allowed to go through any more intersections with it though.

Doctor Dre 08-27-2004 12:41 PM

140 ?!? 1st gear ?!? You are gonna burn your engine ...

Minte 08-27-2004 12:43 PM

try the launch control...and watch the tires smoke!

Pipecrew 08-27-2004 12:48 PM

Cam is one crazy bitch, he was trying to get me to Top mine out when it was hurricane weather and tree's were falling on the road down here.

I wish. For some reason...Cam was not interested in doing it again with the video camera running.

Jact was in the back seat though......He can give a good play by play.

Maybe we will try it again tonight.......Jact......Bring the new camera. :thumbsup

He was curled up in a ball like a little girl last night.

He made some sort of a joke about me losing my driving priviledges up here. Fuck that. :glugglug

If it has the paddles it's an SMG(sequential manual gearbox)

I am not a fan of the SMG to be 100% honest. No idea how that fad came in for the expensive cars.

Easton 08-27-2004 01:00 PM

I found it had a learning curve.Once you get through that,it's really a nice system. You have the performance you want..and it shifts faster than any human ever will.. 8milliseconds in full sport mode, and it can be docile in city traffic.

Translation:

It's pretty fucking fast when it needs to be. :winkwink:

The best feature of the SMG in the M3 is the 'launch control' feature. Shift in to neutral, hold the button to shift up and put the accelerator to the fire wall, the electronic throttle control will dial up 3500 RPM, when the light changes to green let go of the up-shift button, the clutch will engage and the traction control will stop the wheels from spinning. There you are the perfect launch.

Napolean 08-27-2004 01:07 PM

i now have a goal :)

I think Cam needs to replace the back tires before we pull that shit.

The downside on this story is that you can only repeat it 15 times until your clutch has to be replaced (and not under warranty! :warning )

This thread reminds me of a story.. Oh wait, the story got told in the first post.

The young punk in the turning lane was screaming at Aaron and motioning that he wanted to fight, I'm not even sure why he wanted to fight, I just happened to notice him in the turning lane with his fists up and his girlfriend crying and screaming and awaiting death, and then Aaron racing him, and squashing his pathetic little Impala, then us getting up to a stop light beside him and him completely blowing the light tires squeeling to get away from us. Funny, he was the one calling us on? :winkwink:

DrGuile 08-27-2004 01:47 PM

85+mph in first gear? yeah right...

I think I'd avoid racing an M3 with my 350-Z, let alone an Impala. :1orglaugh

Enema 08-27-2004 03:02 PM

If the gears were long enough for it to get 145kph in 1st then it would be a dog off the line.

BMW claim 5.4 seconds 0-100kph... it would never get close to that if the ratios were long. It doesn't have huge torque (262nm) and it reaches peak torque at a lofty 4900rpm.

BS everywhere in this thread.... where's that tool that said M3's have the same piston speed as an F1 car? :1orglaugh

kacy 08-27-2004 03:03 PM

I have an M3 and yes there is learning curve on the SMG. Some days I find myself saying "I hate this car"! How can I say that though? Just seems so ridiculous to even think it, but I get frusterated with that shifting.

#1 I do manual shift. I hate the auto shift-- the timing on is sucks and its not smooth at all. It's too jerky, so I manual shift and I do not use the paddle shifters, haven't got that down yet.

#2 Its like this.....the car is a stick, but you have no clutch and no control. Like I take off in 1st and the car starts jerking back and forth (you know when you firsted learned to drive a stick) and it won't stop. You can't put the clutch in to stop it, you just have to shift and then you are going all slow, etc. Errrrkkk! I have not figured out what I am doing to make this happen, but it happens quite often no matter how smooth I try to take off.

My husband thinks I am nuts of course, because he thinks its just great and never has any of these issues. So, I have to think maybe its me LOL :) Anyway--anyone else ever have these issue with the SMG?

It's very common with highly tuned engines in general, though Medium Pimpin's program owner has a 2002 SMG M3 and it drives nothing like Cambo's 2004 SMG M3, it has none of the jerkyness at low RPMs that you're talking about whatsoever and it's got quicker response times. I think it's mostly just the tuning.
