It's been Monday all week.

One thing after another repeatedly ad nauseum. Last night's was the kicker.

Finished building a computer for a friend who's sister desperately needs one for college and can't afford it. (21 years old, 2 kids under the age of 4, husband who barely makes enough to feed, clothe, and house, and she's startig school to become a LPN to help out. Kudos to her.) So I put together an old 950 AMD Athlon for her. Husband used to use it.

We got it together, then started installing XP Home on it. No go. "Unmountable Boot Volume." Shit.

Tried anoth hard dreive. Same thing. Again, another drive. Same thing. Goddammit!

So I finally just took the slave drive out of my machine and stuck it in there and got rid of the stuff that she wouldn't need...like content.

Booted up, worked beautifully. Sent it to her, complete with monitor, printer, all cables and cords, mouse and keyboard. Basically I gave her a full system for free.

Cool deal. I've been in that position of needing a machine before, so I kinda like to "pay it forward" when I can.

Come back home last night after delivering computer, turn mine on to get my articles finished and sent, and lo and behold, my computer demands that I activate Windows. WTF? Okay, cool, go activate. Windows then tells me that I have activated this copy of Windows too many times. Then it shuts down. Now my computer doesn't even turn on. Master drive is properly placed.
Everything is as it shoudl be save for the fact that I can't turn the fuckig thing on.

What's really a pisser is the copy of Windows I'm using WAS JUST BOUGHT FROM STAPLES YESTERFUCKINDAY!

Microsuck just killed my hard drive, but I bought that fucking copy yesterday. Hang on folks, someone's geting a serious earful from me today! :feels-hot

Holy fuck! This kind of shit suck hard time!

Tala 08-27-2004 10:48 AM

So now I have my laptop going as my main computer. Oi. I hate using the laptop keyboard, so I've stuck my usual mouse and keyboard into the laptop so at least I have some semblance of normalcy.

If it wasn't Windows that caused this, (which it may well not be, but since Bill Gates has put out so many other shit versions of Winblows, I'm just picking a likely target), than wtf could it have been? I changed nothing.

unboutable you mean ? :LP

Doctor Dre 08-27-2004 10:54 AM

That's why you need to use a pirated version of m$ windows ...

I never encourage them ... not worth my money .

No, that's exactly what the blue screen said. Means that drive has some bad sectors that need to be exorcised first.

Pirated versions, (I have a copy of the father-in-law's Pro), have never fucked with me like this. Time to spend a day doing scan disks and format C: ing.

The resons your copy of XP deactivated itself Tala was because you used your HD to boot up the other machine and it saw a vastly different config, so assumed you installed it on two seperate machines with the same key.

This hardware checking caused a big uproar when XP was released. Basically it means if you upgrade your system, you are in danger of getting your key invalidated.

There are ways to disable this *cough*. I don't condone the use of pirated software at any time but M$ certainly push a lot of people to use it with crap like this.

Nice. But now I can't even get the damn thing to turn on. *sigh*

Fuck Windows. I'm learning Linux....at least until I can get my hands on a Mac. :boid
