Do you think sponsors also do reverse shaving?
A reverse shaving is when a sponsor give you signups that you didn't make. For example, if you sent them 1,000 hits and actually only made one signup, they would trow in another signup so that you stat shows a ratio of 1:500 instead of 1:1000.
Why would they do that you ask? Simply to get you hooked and start promoting them more.... Do you thing sponsors do reverse shaving? |
i dont know, but if you find any that do let me know so i can sign up and promote them

If they make false signups it is only to give sth to the people to say that they are good sponsors and well converting and bla bla bla when it isn't true.
If you notice something like that you should make it public to avoid other ppl to get fucked by them. Julio |
It will only bring a short time effect ... they can't afford keeping on doing it .. and the minute they stop people will get disapointed - and maybe stop pushing them
(Shut up Steve :Graucho ) |
I doubt it happens unless its someone trying to land a big fish webmaster or something.
|
I think they rather shave hits than give extra sales. lol.
I convert at 1:20 2nd page uniques, and 1:100 1st page raw at a certain sponsor according to their stats. Total of 1000 hits sent according to them. Funnily my own stats show over 5k hits sent. :) I'm not complaining as long as they pay though. |

Yeah but in the mean time they get you to make lots of galleries, feeders and other sites for them that you can't replace/remove and they'll get lots of publicity. |
I def. think that reverse shaving exists, I have that one sponsor I've promoted ~1 year ago, and I didn't send them much traffic since then (~50 hits per month), but during the last 6 months I always got a sale at the beginning of a new month, but i don#t complain about that. :)
|
I think every sponsors these days know that their affiliates can and do track the amount of hits they send to them, thus whether the sponsors count hits on the first page, second page or signup page, it is irrelevant since we use our own stats for the hits we send and just care about number of signup we get from sponsors.

Yes they do, but I don't think you need to worry about that :1orglaugh

I believe some have done it sure.

T'en fumes du bon à matin :1orglaugh Yeah, i thought about that once. Why not ? What, got something you want to tell us :Graucho |
look at a sponsor like a slot machine and you will have the true picture.
|
i would reverse shave all the guys that publish their stats, plus guys like persiankitty and greenguy because i always visit their sites to see what they are pushing.
|
Platinum bucks already showed sales for the next month. Now thats nice isnt it :)
Ars had extra sales showing up but they were quickly deleted again as well as all the messages on the message board about it. |

Why not simply shave the hits so that your ratio looks a lot better and therefore you will keep on pushing them?
|
There was one particular cam sponsor where if you had a bad run and emailed them saying "my ratio is very high, is something wrong?" a sale or two would magically appear soon after their reply.
It happened twice to me, may have been coincidence, may have been 'shave conscience' (cough) |

no tell what logic runs through a cheats mind.:Graucho

there was one big sponsor where you could always open a fresh account and always see substantially better results immediately, with exactly the same traffic source & amount
|
10dollarcash.com counts on joinpage ratio..
So in fact you sond 3k hits but your signup ratio is 1:120 soulcash.com counts on 2th page uniques So in fact you sond 5k hits with only 3k showing on 1:500 ratio Personal i dont mind aslong i know it ( and dont find out later ) :thumbsup |

In general, I trust as much as sponsors as I trust pushers :winkwink: |
Good question.
From my point of view, I see it like this: If someone is converting badly and we give him a signup so he sends more traffic, we're throwing away money. If his small traffic wont convert, why would more of it start converting ???? The better thing to do is try and find out how he's sending traffic and see what can be done with your site, maybe new front-ends for example, so help IMPROVE his conversion. True, I suppose a sponsor could add sales to someone to keep them happy, but if it's only for reputation, they might as well just pay them straight out to be a rep on the board...same effect, less work :2 cents: |
I would say certain sponsors do this to accounts that make their stats public. For example, a couple link lists publish their stats and sites like the Statistician. By giving extra joins, this makes their program look better to webmasters who are looking at the stats. Makes their program stick out on top and hence brings in more webmasters.

I do know that almost every time I have tried a new sponsor, they are amazing for about 2 weeks, then they perform how I would expect them to after that.

then when you got bad luck and don't convert they add signups |

Exactly why we don't use programs that compare like that. |
That theory kind of goes along with giving away free porn to entice sales. It may actually work, and may happen.
|
I have heard of new companies doing that just to give there new program a boost right off the bat :thumbsup
