If you could plan a webmaster gathering..

Just because I'm curious to see what you folks will come up with..

If you could plan a webmaster gathering, large or small, what would it be, where would it be, when would it be, and is it BYOB?

I have a couple of ideas in mind. One would be a very small gathering, a few cabins by the lake, in early-mid fall here in Tennessee, because everything's cheap as fuck here. Have a weekend to actually relax as we do business, no parties, just some interesting talks, fishing, boating, naked bonfire dancing....

An actual gathering.. i probably wouldnt.

An event at a gathering, yep. Like the one we are throwing in Vegas :thumbsup

Regards,

Lee

Yes you do and I STILL haven't been able to get down there. :feels-hot

Carribean is one of those places that I'm not sure I would go, even to visit. Too damn hot for my taste.

Now if we had one in say...Alaska....

My next choice of venue would be a bigger show-type thing in Seattle, like a Webmaster Access. Lots of hoppin places to visit, great eats, nice climate. That and the fact that I would be about an hour and a half from home, all is cooooool. I betcha dollars to dimes that I could get my boys to play a classic rock gig for us too, quite cheaply. :)

I own mountaingathering.com and themountaingathering.com. I'd like to put a ski trip together this winter. Who wants in on it?

Sweet. One of those would work for a camping-type thingy too.

I'd love to be in on it, but I'm just a peon writer. However, if you'd like some text done for it...

I'd like to have a hunting trip webmaster gaterhing, discuss some business, then go bring down some bucks.

I thought the Very same thing! Tala if you ever want to get in on the planning aspect of gatherings up here give me or Daphna at Thethrillhammer or BrettJ a shout in email. I'd love to talk about something in the future!

Maybe you can make the weekly thing and we can talk about it then...

I personally think Montreal is a very nice spot to do it ... or Amsterdam . But it would have to be a huge ass one to get americans to come.

Vegas is the best spot ... but it's already taken

I would have one here in NC, we have some great hotels and I know a few people who have bars we could go to.

I'd still keep it in Vegas, but I'd do a lot more to keep the people involved besides the booths.

I'd have some kind of sponsored adult competition section, sort of like the stuff we used to do during the Amiga demo scene days.

Set up X amount of PCs with design software (PS, IR, Flash Mx, 3DSMax etc) and a sample of design content. Give everyone who wants to enter 4 hours to come up with the best design they can.

At the end of the heats, vote on the top one, put them into a final for a cash prize or something.

Webmaster events would go above the norm - parties are cool, but we work all year - let's have some fun!

Paintball (Probably speedball - 5 person teams, round robin then single elim)

Poker Tournaments (Wait, we already did this, but it was so popular) - maybe a blackjack/slot tourney too?

Shit I could go on and on...

jaYMan 08-26-2004 09:53 PM

Drink all day and rock all night,
the law come to get ya if you don't walk right,
got a letter this morning, baby, all it read,
"You better head back to Tennessee, Jed"

Tennessee, Tennessee, there ain't no place I'd rather be,
Baby, won't you carry me back to Tennessee?

I'd go.
;)

I love the cabins by the lake idea, Tala. Banff would be nice for that. Lots of laid back wilderness plus a few fun bars if folks wanted to shake it up a little. :thumbsup

A munch in your log-cabin's basement (LO-fucking-L). Theme: The Blair Witch Project meets Zoolander. But, I tease...
