designers, don't you HATE it when...

a client obviously has piss poor taste in design and wants you to change what you already did, into a steamy pile of typical bullshit????!

i'm not referring to any specific experience, but it has happened to me several times before n' it sucks.

:winkwink:

Downtime 08-26-2004 09:41 AM

I know exactly how you feel, i just think about the money and i don't care too much then

okny 08-26-2004 09:44 AM

Things like this happen wether you are doing design work or development, nothing you can do about but show the client drafts of the work before it's finished this way he can agree on the design and proceed forward.

I like clients who prepay and don't require any changes to their work after completion. I had one today.
Thanks. :thumbsup

AdultNex 08-26-2004 12:49 PM

Been through it many times already.

I've even had clients show me Geocities sites that they thought were "superb".

Unless the buyer is a 1st timer, most people should find the right designer and stick with them. I tell my guy what I want, and it always comes out 100% better than I ever imagined. Never realy made him make any serious changes other than color or something.

It's part of the job tho, any designer should expect change requests, especially from new commers.

The only thing I can see a designer being upset about is, not wanting to be known as the one who made that one ugly design.

SetTheWorldonFire 08-26-2004 04:47 PM

I've had that happen many times.

I really don't care either, it's what they want.

The only thing that suffers is your portfolio which is vital a designer.

:2 cents:

My only gripe is the client that doesn't know what he wants until you do something for him and then he realizes he wants it totally different.

It just comes with the territory.

The other side of the coin is the guy that has everything figured out in his head. Provides you with a detailed layout sketch, re touched content, sales text, etc. That leaves nothing left but to design it.

I am working with a guy like this now and it's a pleasure.

zuzana designs 08-26-2004 04:57 PM

The client is always right . But it is something you have to deal with all the time. as long as they pay it's all good to me.

Thats exactly what I do. Im horrible at design, but I draw it out as best I can, i tell him what fonts I like most, sizes, placement, and baam, he makes it.

Takes me 10 minutes to make a quick sketch and its usually good enough.

MR2raymond 08-26-2004 05:09 PM

you do designs for a client and after asks for a revision which u as the designer knows would make it look bad....

i just try to make the best out of the ugly.....

:glugglug

Doctor Dre 08-26-2004 05:10 PM

Definitly ... one guy from an advertising compagny here always come to us (3-4 times a week) for design ... and always ScREW them us badly ...

His business got really huge and now it's slowly dying

teleblade69 08-26-2004 05:13 PM

Mainstream clients use to do that sometimes but when you have a waterproof contract (with different milestones of the project)

the chanche is little it will happen again.

but i used to be pissed at those fuckers!

railz 08-26-2004 06:10 PM

It used to, but now I just go with the flow :)

They're paying me to do what they want, and I'm happy to accomodate them.
