you just have to try things, what works for someone else might not work for you

A friend of mine got one of those to his site a few months back.. I think he barely broke even or lost a few bucks if memory serves.

Lots of clicks, but not so many signups. Your mileage will probably vary though. :)

Depends on what you're selling. I know someone who bought a link and made 3 times his investment back. Everyone's experience varies per content, layout, and site.

It really depend on whether you are able to convert this traffic.

out of 5000 hits to my page => 1 join
out of 500 hits to my join page => 1 join...yes
