What is considered to be a "high income" in America?

If I make, say $5000 / month, is that a high or a low income?

You'll know if you're "High Income" by the around of taxes you're forced to pay.

The richer you become the less you pay :thumbsup

NiTe-HaWk 08-25-2004 04:59 AM

I would call that middle class.

lazycash 08-25-2004 05:00 AM

Really depends on where you live. You make 5k/month and live in rural south you would be considered well off. You live in southern California and make 5k/month you're middle class.

YEah, but you cannot write off a hummer as a "Business Expense" and get money back from the GOVT for it like you can in the GOOD OLD US OF A...

Rich People can afford it, poor-middle class people cannot :)

rs1 08-25-2004 05:12 AM

well 5k a month, you really cant say thats good or bad. it depends on where you live . if you live in NYC then its just ok. if you live in Montana then your a King LOL

Goatse 08-25-2004 05:47 PM

It depends where you live. New York, San Fran or Hong Kong? You're poor, almost homeless. Missouri, Oklahoma, New Brunswick... you can live like a king.

pornstar2pac 08-25-2004 05:51 PM

toddler 08-25-2004 05:55 PM

Gross or net? Rent or own? Car payments? Child support? I know people make $250k a year who don't have dime to their name because of debt.

You are considered to have a high income in America if you have any type of "yard" in California that is larger than 4 square foot.

Wow you have 450 sq ft of grass(as in the nonsmokeable kind) in Cali?

bigdog 08-25-2004 06:12 PM

5k in new york won't mean much if you have to pay 2k a month in rent

Illicit 08-25-2004 06:14 PM

I think 5k / month is an average income... Only thing is I bet 75% of the people on this board dont make that

Who said anything about grass? You have to cut that shit...I've got brick....A nice big patio. No fuss, no muss. All I have to do is spray it down every couple of days.

/me misses his 3 acres in Neb....

5 yr old data... probably closer to $4k now

mcmc 08-25-2004 06:47 PM

no. Usually such numbers increase about 2-3% a year.

toonces 08-25-2004 06:47 PM

Only 5% of the population makes over 85k

and that would be around 4k... dont forget that you get 2-3% every year, meaning the raise is bigger every year

Where are you???

kinkage 08-25-2004 06:53 PM

http://www.census.gov/statab/ranks/rank27.html

5k a month x 12 months = 60k a year. you'll see by the census chart that that's above average for every single state in the US (2002 anyways) and in some states that's double. You'd be doing nice in my neck of the woods, just as long as you aren't up to your eyeballs in debt.
