Generating traffic to a new site

Can someone point me to a tutorial for generating traffic to a new site. My site has been up for close to a month now and i'm bringing in about 300 uniqe hits a day. Obviously i'm looking to increase this dramatically. I post on link dumps, and message boards almost daily, but i'm not seeing a steady increase in the amount of traffic i get. Thanks for the help.

What type of site is it?

I don't mean to sound like a dick...but...Why would you build a site when you don't know how to get traffic to it?

I hope it's not a paysite.

SickKittens: It's a text link TGP.

AaronM: When you first started in this business, i'm sure that as soon as you launched, millions of people were visiting your site daily. Unfortunately i'm trying to learn, and apparently i'm going about it the hard way.

The site is script driven for the TGP links, and they are refreshed daily. I was looking in to purchasing traffic, but many people advised me against it unless i was going to use it to force traffic trades...

what I ment by script driven was if it used a traffic trading script.. looks like you don't so those sites just take a long time to grow.

I think about the only way to speed it up, if you want that site to be hardlinks, Is to build a few trade script driven sites and feed it traffic from them. Even doing that you are in for a very long process. That's why most guys these days trade traffic by scripts and skiming the gallery links.

Check out the banner at the bottom of the page...

"Is your website traffic a little slow?"

Not being mean, it's just ironic :thumbsup

I don't mind being in it for the long haul. I don't really anticipate making any real money with this site for at least 6 months, and i'm fine with that. Do you think buying traffic is worth it at this point? If i build a trade script driven site, what's the best way of going about setting up the trades? Everything i've read says that if your site is getting 500 hits a day, you want to trade with a site that gets about 2000. Well wtf is in it for the guy who runs the site getting 2000 hits? He's going to send you a bunch of traffic that you can't match right?

The way most trading scripts work is that they send back what they think your traffic is worth.

If you send me a surfer and they click on 10 galleries and one trade link, then my end will decide to return perhaps 1.5 surfers to you. If your surfer only clicks on 2 galleries and no trade links then I might return 0.2. It's usually fully automated by the scripts, with the webmasters able to do manual tweaks like sending you some extra traffic.

The reason that people say to trade with slightly larger sites is so that your trade doesn't max out... you want to be able to grow.

Right now it looks like your site only has a referral script? This is the first thing you need to fix - if you want to grow then you really need to list people who you are actually trading with, so the two way traffic grows both your sites. Sending back hits to GFY won't grow your site. :)

BTW most TGPs use skimming these days. This is where out of 10 clicks on a gallery link, 2 or 3 might be redirected to another trade. It is jerking surfers around a bit, but it works surprisingly well... so long as you don't skim too aggressively.

Skim free sites - like your setup now - are a lot harder to grow and will take more time, but the quality of their traffic is usually higher.

Text based sites are also getting harder to grow these days... ever thought about a thumb preview? :)

Know of a traffic trading script in ASP?
