So I was walking down the street today..
and then I see this 16 year old girl sitting on the sidewalk with a sign saying '30 weeks pregnant and homeless'.
as a european that's just really hard to believe. doesn't the government over here help anyone? :( |
In canada she would get help ... dunno about the states
|
you asked how old she is?
|
Thats really sad - poor girl :(

You people who think the United States doesn't help anyone in need really crack me up. Before blaming a government, why not sit back and ask yourself how some 16 year old has nowhere to go. Think maybe she fucked up somewhere? The girl needs guidance. There's plenty of it available, it's her responsibility to reach out and find it. |

What could he do to help? I'm sure $10 wouldn't do much in the long run. |
you should have paid for her to get an abortion, if she cant take care of herself, NO WAY she can take care of a baby.
|
You could have punched her in the belly and stepped on her feet, and then slam the child on the hard concrete..
|
That sucks :(
My impression of the USA is that it's a great country to live in IF and only if you are rich. If you can't support yourself, for one reason or another, you're royally fucked. Michael Moore's movies may be biased, but they sure show many (especially the young) Europeans that there are lots of people living outside Beverly Hills and Melrose Place... |

Also everyone owns a gun and it is mandatory that we each kill one person a day to control the population. On a side note everyone from the south is toothless and fucking their sisters. |

I am saying that they can serve as eye openers to e.g. many European teenagers, who think that America is all about fast cars, big houses and what you see in glamour tv series. But you don't agree that it's a not exactly the best country in the World to be unable to support yourself? |

the weirdest thing in america is, the second you look up after something as sad as that crosses your eye you see a 30 foot limo drive by to drop off some rich chick at prada. it's just so close together over here, the rich and a the poor. the thought alone that someone was shot today in a neighborhood just 5 miles away from here boggles my mind, right here it looks so peaceful. |
I was behind a girl at the grocery store once, couldnt have been more than 18 or 19 who had a young baby and she was begging the bitch at the counter to please take her check, the lady was telling her that she had written a check before but it had bounced, and until she cleared it up with the checking agency she couldnt take it.
The lady was being a total snob, and the young girl with the baby was just really upset and was saying that she had cleared it up but it hadnt had time to clear the system, she didnt have alot of stuff on the counter, but you could tell it was mostly baby stuff and food for herself and her child, but the lady running the register was just treating this girl like dirt and told her if she couldnt pay she would need to move, the girl looked back at me, and as she stepped forward to leave the checkout aisle, with her stuff laying on the counter I told her to hold on a second, I handed the lady my item, think I had like a carton of soda, and I said, here just add this to the total, I got it. And I payed for all her items and my one item, told the lady I wanted it double bagged, and stood there smiling while she bagged up the girls groceries. the girl asked for an address so she could pay me back but I told her, right in front of the cashiers face, dont worry bout it, the look on this bitch's face is payment enough. I have a soft spot for people like that, dont know why, sure some of you will say let the bitch starve, or she put herself in that position, but you never know what life will deal you, even the richest smartest people on this earth could be in the gutter tomorrow, you just never know. |
props to mdcq for helping out the lady that needed it :thumbsup

The great part about it was I just happened to have cash on me that day, I rarely carry cash, and im sure that cashier bitch would have give me shit if I tried to write her a check. Couldnt say no to a crisp 100 dollar bill though..:) Thats really the first time I have told that story to anyone, didnt do it for recognition or anything like that, im just saying you never know what kind of shit hand life will deal you, do unto others, ya know... |
It would depend on wher she was in the states if she got help or not.
|
Well she shouldnt have been a whore!!!:winkwink: :1orglaugh :Graucho
jk |
I almost always give a dollar or two to all the people who ask for money. I know that most of them are drunks or drug addicts which is why I dont give them any more but I have seen a lot of my friends lives get fucked up because of drugs and shit so I always think what if that were me:2 cents:
|
she has to go to the right places and get help not the street corner but if it is true then it is horribly sad
|
Some people really have no clue.
Being poor in the US and having no insurance is actually better than having a HMO or other medium sized plans offered by employment. Just in case nobody is paying attention. ER's can not turn you away, even if you are not a citizen of this country and you will get the same treatment as others and often better. |
Did you extend any help? Although it's her fault why it happened to her an innocent baby has nothing to do with it.

They way americans (in general) treat eachother just seems unexplainable. But unless you've spent a significant amount of time living elsewhere (in another well-developed nation) it's hard to explain the contrast. As a sweeping generalization, I think it's (sadly) fair to say americans care less about the other people living in their town vs citizens of other countires.
We're the wealthiest country on the planet, and yet we are so hostile to eachother. It's like people here intentionally try to make life difficult for eachother. Some of this can be blamed on an excess of bureaucracy (whether government or company imposed) but there's something else going on; some self-perpetuating cycle of 'fuck-you'ism that seems so baseless. Why? I haven't come up with a good answer. I think peoples jobs are a big part of it. Employment has become dehumanizing. eg. Even the most basic jobs can require you to piss in a cup. That's simply degrading by any standard. I could go on a rant for pages, but I think the movie 'Office Space' summed up most of the main points. (between the 'office' scenes and the 'restaurant' scenes, they have most of america covered) Once both my dog and cat pass away (hopefully not for many more years) I am quite certain I'll move out of the US. I'll sacrifice some of the luxuries of the US, because I would rather live in a 'community' than an 'economy'. |
the world gets more fucked up every day
