ATTENTION: Tampa / Florida Webmasters.....

I am going to be moving my business to Tampa in Oct/Nov and am looking for some basic business information. I would appreciate any helpful input on the following:

Registering, (LLC, any difficulties/issues I should be ready for)
Legal Representation, (any recommendations)
Accounting Firms, (any recommendation)
Leasing office space, (best locations/zoning restrictions)
General Law reguarding setting up a web based adult business.

We, (Reeltails/Project Naked) shoot reality/studio style content. I have been shooting content for over 5 years now. I have two associates already in Tampa with our residence already set up.
I am planning the release of our new paysite, projectnaked.com sometime in October and would like to have as smooth a transition as possible. I am new to webmastering but not to business. I remember people who help me.

I am currently registered in Michigan.

Thanks in advance,
Harley Sheffield

That's who we have on retainer.

:thumbsup

Check out http://www.myflorida.com/ and www.sunbiz.org for info on registering your corp.

The best advice is try to stay away from shooting content in resedential areas. VoyeurDorm had big issues when the neighbors realized what was going on.
Other then that, welcome to tampa! :thumbsup

We're in Tampa... welcome to the neighborhood!

Our attorney is Larry Walters. He's 90 minutes from Tampa on the other side of Orlando, but he knows adult and does a damn good job. A little on the expensive side, but well worth it. He can do the corporation for you, too, or you can get any local attorney to do that. We used a local one for the corporation (we're an S-corp).

As for accounting, we use one that is very familiar with Tampa and adult. He does the books for several of the areas adult establishments, and he has worked for the IRS. He takes care of us. I don't want to announce his info here, though, so email me for that.

There are plenty of places for renting a studio/office in the area. Drew Park is where most of the lingerie shops and porn stores are located, but it's not a really nice area. If you're planning on being low-key, than just get an office anywhere. The Hillsborough County Commission has already been through the works with the VoyeurDorm fiasco that happened a while back, and has paved the way for adult internet businesses to operate throughout most of Hillsborough County.

Anything else you want to know... hit me up.

Thx for the info, We are going to be right outside ybor city, looking forward to a crazy winter.

For attorney, we use Luke Lirot. He is local to Tampa. He has done work for CandidCam (aka Voyeurdorm), Mons Venus, BigDoggie.net and us (http://www.sptimes.com/News/112700/T...ness_joi.shtml)

Accountant, I can recommend one.

Zoning, depends on what you want to do. I own a building in Drew Park (Tampa's de facto red light district) but its currently leased out. In general, you don't have to worry about zoning unless you will have members of the public coming to your location. Be sure to stay in the City of Tampa and don't go into Hillsborough County or you could have additional hassles.

Hit me up on ICQ 3702699 or email [email protected] and I'll be happy to give you some advice.

P.S. Adam, it was the Tampa City Council not the Hillsborough County Commissioners that gave Voyeur Dorm (and us) headaches.

If you need any help here and there, let me know. I'm not very experienced, but I am smart, reliable, honest, hardworking, and very very eager to learn.
I particularly think I would be excellent at recruiting talent...I'm a big girl, and even the stuck-up chicks like me b/c they don't see me as a threat at all (little do they know, heh heh! j/k, lol).
So, please hit me up if you'd like to discuss it, and even if not, welcome to the bay...If you're near Ybor City, you should do a drunk girl series, lmao!
Hugs, Chase

In Florida, you can do an S Corp And I think an LLC online. Go to myflorida.com I think if you do it online, it will save you about 100 to 150. If money is no object, then feel free to have an attorney do it.,

Good luck and enjoy the sun.

By the way. Clearwater beach is only about 40 minute drive and is very nice. Family and fun beach, but the cops are the biggest assholes on the planet. They type that have been know to bust a tail light just to give you a ticket.

ProjectNaked 08-23-2004 10:48 PM

So I guess streaking down the beach is out of the question???:1orglaugh

I will probably do LLC, I have one here and it seems to be the best option for taxes??? any opinions on S corp vs. LLC also appreciated, (50/50 partnership, w/ only contracted labor right now.)

thx

Oh yeah. My mistake.

GFED 08-24-2004 08:01 AM

Welcome to Tampa!

JUSTB 08-24-2004 08:08 AM

Welcome to Tampa. Make sure you come check out our data center. We have some nice space available.

I would recommend Luke Lirot for adult legal services. For a CPA I would recommend Lou Haskell. He's in Clearwater and very familiar with adult.

If you're in the Ybor City area most of that area is zoned adult so you shouldn't have many issues.

Penrod 08-24-2004 08:09 AM

shoot me an email when you get to town. I will try to help in any way I can.

You will enjoy Tampa.:winkwink:
