Private U.S.A To Discontinue VHS

SUN VALLEY, Calif - In a move certain to become more common in the porn game, Private U.S.A announced Friday it is discontinuing production of VHS copies of its videos, beginning in November.

According to the company, Private U.S.A. will be the first major adult producer to distribute their new releases exclusively on DVD. The company cites ?lagging sales of VHS, the explosive growth and demand for the discs and the overall acceptance of DVD in the adult marketplace? as the main factors in its decision.

"[DVDs] also take up less space than VHS, which means the discs take up less space in our warehouse and we can ship more of them in smaller boxes," Lisa Radamaker, sales manager for Private U.S.A said in a statement. "Going with DVD-only releases isn't just good for the consumers, but it's good for us as well."

Good idea

I honestly don't know why anyone would not have purchased a DVD player by now.

I have seen them for as low as $35-$40, it's beyond ridiculous to even consider a VHS player at this point.

the only time I have bought a vhs tape in the past 5 years was when we already had 2 things scheduled on the tivo, and we wanted a third program....so, i recorded it on the built in vcr in the bedroom....

vhs is worthless

BradM 08-22-2004 08:48 PM

I don't even own a VHS machine anymore.

I have seen recently some amazing movies at Walgreens for 2 for $7.00 on VHS...one for example was Boogie Nights...even though I don't have it on DVD I did not buy it...I would rather spend the extra money.

Makes sense.. you can get a dvd player for like 40 bucks or so now. No reason NOT to have one.

I work for an Audio Video company and we pump out VHS all the time. Main stream companys have yet to pick up on dvd. We usualy make 100 vhs with a couple DVD masters. And possibly 10 dvds. The funny part is that its cheaper to go dvd.

The only reason I buy vhs now is if its an old punk tape or something off ebay. No use for them otherwise.

Video-Post 08-22-2004 09:55 PM

About time. Things sure move slowly.

woj 08-22-2004 09:56 PM

not a bad idea, I haven't used anything on a vhs tape in probably 2-3 years...

Video-Post 08-22-2004 09:56 PM

Oh and don't forget to rewind before returning the chunky VHS cassette...DOH!

hyper 08-22-2004 09:59 PM

give it 2 years there will be no more vhs

yeah but they dont mass produce records anymore since cd's came out.

when music cd's came out. cd players in cars were an option.
now that u buy a new car with a cd player as standard equipment you will see casettes phased out slowly

Our website sells 254 DVDs for every one VHS we sell.

Tivo doesn't work with my satellite system, so I'll junk my VCR when the 2nd generation of home DVD recorders comes out and blank DVDs are equivelent in cost to blank VHS. I'm always recording stuff for others.

riosluts 08-22-2004 10:24 PM

heh i havent had a VCR for 3 years already. THe last one broke and didnt bother to get a replacement.

they are not made nearly as much, but every single song/artist releases everything they do on vinyl still....

we have 13 record shops in atlanta alone, all with new releases

I buy blank dvds for less then 1 buck Canadian each.. so the price is really coming down. I have no idea of the costs on a dvd tv recorder though.

how could it not work its just video and audio this doesnt change. One thing I did notice is you cant record in Hi-Def but you can still route it in to record stuff. Thats just gay to say it doesnt work.
