Yeah I was noticing a lot of empty seats earlier.. I bet thats the last time Greece gets the Olympics for a while. :2 cents:

uchase/webpry 08-22-2004 08:01 PM

seriously, you guys think the greek olympics will be remembered as the games without audience?

woj 08-22-2004 08:05 PM

heh heh

BradM 08-22-2004 08:06 PM

... you'll get shot if you don't attend.

Living For Today 08-22-2004 09:28 PM

It definitely is disapointing for the athletes and everyone in general. I remember when we had the olympics in 2000 even the minnow soccer games filled 40,000 stadiums.

riosluts 08-22-2004 09:30 PM

hahah great and funny pic.

Spunky 08-22-2004 09:30 PM

I'll still remember the sydney olympics in a 1000 years, the games should be hosted there forever.

fr8 08-22-2004 09:52 PM

Were they not giving out free tickets to help fill the stands?

erehwon 08-22-2004 09:57 PM

The Greeks are just disappointed the athletes aren't competing in the nude like they used to... :1orglaugh

Why do you think it's a poor turn out? Because Greece isn't a nice destination? It has more to do with Bush and Co. and their terror alert propaganda bullshit that has the world paranoid. Nice going W.

More tickets have been sold than in Barcelona and Seoul (close to 3mil). This pic is not taken during the olympics and yes there are still many empty spaces. Certain sports don't get the attention of people. Tickets are not overpriced. At least for me they look very cheap. Gymnastics is the only exception of expensive tickets and some of the finals.

On Saturday I went to watch australia vs p.rico at 9 in the morning and then serbia vs spain. All tickets were sold and costed 15euro for both games (so that's about 8euro/game). I didn't manage to find a ticket for beach volley, the rest basketball games of greece and weightlifting. I know I can find tickets for badminton, baseball, softball, shooting and archery but i don't like them and this seems to apply for the rest. Overall I would say more tickets were sold than expected after the bs media propaganda for over a year that possible Al Queda will hit Athens, security is not good and avenues won't be ready.

Korea had no audience, when people noticed they filled the stands with the army and school children

reynold 08-23-2004 02:00 AM

Greeks are proud...even if the seats are not full.

the # of tickets sold are displayed with a day delay

for the 21st

http://www.athens2004.com/en/LatestN...2b130c0a ____

78% of the overall tickets were sold on saturday which is a working day for shops and many corps.

dunefield 08-23-2004 05:00 AM

wow it's a full house at the olympics...

DTK 08-23-2004 06:44 AM

If you've ever been in Athens in August, you'd know why there are so many empty seats LOL

Floridiot 08-23-2004 06:49 AM

Face (o_0) 08-23-2004 08:08 AM

do you guys think it has something to do with all the terrorist shit thats been going on... or nobody gives a fuck about the olympics

Goatse 08-23-2004 02:19 PM

The truth is that you usually see the action much better on TV. You lose the grandeur of the event, but you make it up by being comfortable and not spending $400 to watch 4 hours of mostly crappy prelims followed by one exciting final.

NoCarrier 08-23-2004 02:21 PM

For the past 2 years, the medias have been talking about the security measures and how the terrorist would srike the olympic games.. That didn't help... :1orglaugh

Firehorse 08-24-2004 02:47 AM

I am sure the climate, terrorist fears, and some sports not being as popular have caused less than full attendances at some events! :2 cents:

You have all the reason Soul_Rebel, people that doesn't care about olympics are just envious of how well they are doing at the moment, and about the historical meaning of these games. It's a big mistake to see that out of date pic and believe that it was taken during a match or any other event.
I know there are some sports that doesn't have full house, but in overall Athens 2004 are going pretty well.

Take a history class and open your mind.

I'm just guessing here but I'm thinking this is DarkJedi posting under another nick. You and your posts are worthless.

CDSmith 08-24-2004 07:21 AM

Never dis the Olympics.

This kind of friendly competition between all the countries of the world is the glue that holds our planet together and prevents us from totally annihilating each other.

Conclusion: only a complete fucking bonehead would hate the games.

MickeyG 08-24-2004 07:22 AM

I enjoy the olympics especially the female sports, its interesting to see what all the women of the world look like.
