What's a good cheaper alternative to Mirco$osft Office suite?

I only basicaly need a spreadsheet à la Excell and a word processor similar to Words. Most important thing is that I'm able to use all my saved ".xls" and ".doc" files on it....

I use openoffice. Easy to put on pcs without worry about licences. I'm not spending $1000+ just to put ms office on a couple of computers.
