PORN ACTRESS STONED TO DEATH IN IRAN

TEHRAN, May 21 (AFP) - An Iranian woman convicted of acting in pornographic films has been stoned to death in the prison where she has been held for the last eight years, a newspaper reported Monday. The unnamed 35-year-old was buried in a pit and pelted with stones until she died in the centre of Tehran's Evin prison, the Entekhab paper said, adding that she had been tracked down after an intensive police search. It said investigators only succeeded in finding her after they noticed the serial number of an electricity meter that was in the background of a scene in one of her films. She denied being the woman on screen but police found several witnesses who testified she was indeed the X-rated actress. The woman was sentenced to death after being convicted of adultery and "corruption on earth," a verdict which was upheld by the supreme court.

Christianity is supposed to be built on the teachings of Jesus (turn the other cheek, do unto others etc), yet the Catholic Church was behind numerous wars, among them - the Crusades.

I can't think of any religion that says it is ok for other people to worship under any other religion. Religion + Politics = Trouble

Here's an interesting thought:

If murder is wrong in the bible then all those executioners are damned to hell right? Unless, of course, the executioner does not believe in heaven & hell. So whenever someone is excuted, does that mean they find someone who doesn't believe in heaven & hell?

The God of the Koran is the God of the Torah, is the God of the Old Testament.

God is pissed. Always has been, always will be.

Labret is right, that whole "God is Love" thing is a touchy-feely 20th century thing.

The God in the bible is vengeful and meant to be feared - hence the term God-fearing.

Also in that "I am Alpha and Omega..." speech he says he is all things and all things are created by him - good and evil. The whole idea that Satan was running around creating evil was developed much later because people didn't want God to be the heavy. Even if you reject that, you have to realize that God created Satan knowing exactly what he'd do and would become - thus all things evil are created by God.

As a disclaimer, I'm an athiest - I'm just fascinated by religions.

Just a side question, since some of you seem intersted in this. Have any of you read the Anne Rice book "Memnoch The Devil"? It is one of her Lestat the vampire books, but it has some intersting twists in the relationship between God, angels, mankind, and the devil. Also, I thought it was a much better read than the "Interview With A Vampire", which I found, at times, ponderous.

Early (old testament) religion was created to keep the people of that era under control (no police around). All forms of deity worship revolve around certain tenets that mainly involve peacefulness and being extra nice to the preachers (freeloading *&$**%)
The notion of a 'god' existing is less valid than that of ghosts and the spirit world (anyone fancy playing with a ouija board?). Humans have always worshipped something - the sun, moon, water, stars, Bill Gates, and always will.
Jesus definitley existed - there is historical proof of that - but he is alleged to have stated that after the deaths of his apostles that religion would end up being used by man for his own means. The damn Italians put him on his cross, then had the temerity to set up their own organized religion mafia which preaches love thy neighbour, yet has billions of dollars in reserves to propage the religion (I don't see the Catholic church doling handouts to the poor and needy)

The Christianity most people believe is analogous to that picture of Jesus that looks like he belongs in a Breck hair ad. You know the one, where he looks like an enraptured Norwegian instead of a middle eastern Jew?

In other words, most Christians are taught a whitewashed version of Christianity which forgets much of the politically incorrect aspects of not just the Old Testament, but the New Testament as well.

Do you believe in demons? Jesus did, according to The Bible. Not only that, on one occasion when he found some demons, he didn't just neutralize them or send them away. No, he instead moved them into a bunch of pigs and drove them over a cliff. It's hard to be a Christian and an animal lover at the same time when you read that one.

But Christianity is hardly unique there. Buddhism didn't start out as a religion, it started out as a philosophy of life, of how to be happy. Basically, Siddhartha said, "You want to be happy? Stop wanting to be happy. Stop craving things. Stop craving even happiness itself. Craving and wanting are the source of unhappiness."

Yeah, there was no God in early Buddhism. But, people seem to want a higher power, so eventually Siddhartha was converted into Buddha, a God unto himself in many respects, and a bunch of highly unlikely stories grew up around him (e.g., he wasn't born but instead arrived on a heavenly elephant).

When that wasn't enough, then some of the local Hindu gods became Buddhist divinities as well.

I don't believe in God. Some people say, "How can you look at the miracle of The Cosmos and life and not believe in God?" To me, God is an explanation, and when there is an explanation, there is no miracle. It's much more miraculous to my mind to consider that The Cosmos and life simply happened.
