Metrosexual Marketing - The New Business Practise?
Metrosexual Male Marketing - The New Business Practice?
More often than not when webmasters look at the marketing capabilities of their sites both adult and mainstream they tend to think of either gay or straight however, with the recent evolving trend of more straight males becoming more and more accepting of typically 'feminine' beauty practices I figured it would be an idea to show how we can add a new slant to our online marketing practices specifically, how we can turn what we can currently promote to women into potential products that we can make men buy to. Defining A Metrosexual. If you head across to Google and do a search on the term 'Metrosexual' you will find several search results (78,300 to be exact presently) and one of the first results for this term defines a Metrosexual as 'An urban male with a strong aesthetic sense who spends a great deal of time and money on his appearance and lifestyle'. In other words, those males who were perhaps made fun of for getting manicures and pedicures even a year ago are now coming into their own and even the mainstream marketing machine is starting to target this new demographic. Metrosexuality - Where Did It Come From? Good question and to be honest, it has been around for a very long time however, it is only recently since the advent of the 'gay' lifestyle has hit the mainstream media with shows such as Queer Eye For The Straight Guy and Will + Grace that we have really seen this lifestyle / demographic boom. Metrosexual Product Lines. For the most part, the existing products and services that we can offer to the Metrosexual male as a marketing tool are very limited in fact, for the most part, it would seem like the mainstream 'bricks and mortar' businesses have started this craze well ahead of the online industry especially given the recent changes in the way that companies such as Gillette and Clarins have started to advertise their new ranges of beauty products to men. However, with that said, there are several companies who are presently working on such products to market online of course, implementation of such a new marketing genre is going to be the tell tale fail or succeed for these companies. Metrosexual Marketing. Metrosexual marketing although we have slim pickings at the moment is still possible and, can still become a lucrative business for webmasters both now and, in the future the real test however will be how sustainable this current trend will become yet with many of the mainstream male dominated businesses already starting to cash in on this new craze the future definitely looks promising. I don't think anyone on GFY cares how to make a MetroSexual guy buy more face cream. I'll leave that to the marketing wonks at P&G and the like to worry about.
As the head of Affiliate Programs for FriendFinder, what I've been thinking about a lot lately is the direction of new adult content, the increasing "fuzziness" between the once-hard lines separating gay from straight and male-centric from female-centric imagery. As I see it, the MetroSexual phenomenon is a HEALTHY indication that polarized gender roles and behavioral expectations based on whether you have a cock or a pussy are slowly dissolving. That bodes well for us as a species, since people who feel freer to "invent" or pursue a uniquely personal sexuality are happier people. I think it bodes well for the adult industry, too, insofar as a market that is more stratified and less polarized in its preferences creates room for much needed innovation in content and in the services (like ours) that help people connect on the basis of who/what they are. j- |

2. Then, some men said, hey I prefer dick, and some women said I prefer pussy, creating a total of 4 possible groups. 3. Now it seems that some of the attitudes and preferences of gay men and gay women are being incorporated by the traditional hetero camps. 4. As a result new and exciting ways to sell things to people are becoming possible. j- |

As a marketer, I see wider opportunities to sell stuff, if we allow people to be themselves, versus trying to make them buy only the off-the-shelf trappings assigned to their gender by conservative traditionalists. j- |
