I've never even HEARD of memory leaks. What are they?

poorly coded applications, every program you run uses memory to save information.. usually to your RAM, when an application exits, it should also remove information from memory for other programs to use.

but sometimes people dont do this, so that memory is not freed up, thus wasting resources and slowing down performance.

I've also had a problem with my USB mouse... cursor freezes up every couple of hours and I have to unplug it and plug it back in. Corrupted driver, maybe?

could be, im more of a software guy than a hardware guy

usb or the mouse could have some sorta defect too... but like i said, i suck when it comes to the parts... i just know the coding stuff

have you tried a differant usb port maybe? or do you use any other usb devices and do that have any problems?

could be the mouse itself.. try swapping ports and another mouse.. if the problem goes away.. then its definately the mouse itself.

I used to have that problem, but now all my machines here auto-reboot every 12 hours and then reload everything they were running. Total hands-off moneymaker running on autopilot.

try downloading the latest drivers for that mouse, that should help.

How do you have the machines auto-reboot? Getting my scripts relaunched on startup is easy, but I'm not sure how I would set it up to reboot automatically like that.

nah i dont need em to reboot , just saying the prog running runs fo awhile and the me usage keeps on going up without be released

Funny how fast you forget the people that have helped you in the past... a simple thanks goes a long way.

broke, out of curiosity is there a way to stop these leaks or to have them somehow reset in order not to lag?

I have the same problem on some machines.

It´s allways the same shit, some poorly coded software grabs shitloads of memory and blocks it.

I use a small shareware tool called Freemem - it runs in the background and
checks for unused RAM.

Due to the poor programimg by coders for Windows apps... you need to find a time to reboot your servers daily.

Find a low traffic time and reboot the load balanced servers one at a time. If you don't have load balancing, find a low traffic time that you can be down for 5 minutes.


Memory leaks on apps written for windows are horrible.

Take that into account.

You will notice the difference really fast - i have some Win 2000 machines now up and runnig for 3 years ( 24/7 ) - the machines get only rebooted if i have an bugfix to install.

There are several apps avaible which will more or less free your ram.If you're lucky that'll help.
