Organizational Issues: Can an old dog learn new tricks?

I know a lot of people here suffer the same thing...but here's the thing...I have tried so hard to organize myself...but to no avail.

I've read books...etc..etc..but I just can't fucking get it.

IT's like my brain is not wired that way.

For example if I have bills sitting on my desk and I need to go through them and organize them my brain almost tells me NO. Not because they shouldn't be, but I'm not really working unless I'm spending 99.9% of my time doing actual work.

It's as if keeping my desk organized is not "real work," something I can justify.

So in the end I clean up my desk, and within hours it looks worse than before.

It's not just a desk issue, it's a whole lifestyle issue. I could buy a new set of drawers and establish what drawer will hold what..but before it's over with I'm shoving everything in the drawers because once again it's time taking away from actual work..but in the end I'm beginning to think that it's more detrimental to avoid such things and to "work" than it is to spend time keeping organized and leaving myself room to breathe and think more clearly.

So can an old dog learn new tricks?

Any suggestions...any clutter people out there able to get past that?

I'm a huge clutter freak - i just move the clutter from my desk to a bulletin board eventually to make it clean...i get by, that's all that matters.

But that's the thing...some things eventually get clean..and others get missed. :(

I've been trying to get this office reorganized since May when I bought a new desk...a real desk..for so long I was using a set up that was not conducive to organization..but still I have not finished the project been busy but that's just an excuse.

I used to be like that and it drove me nuts, then I bought a filing cabinet and folders and I throw all my papers in there except for checks and bills.

I dont even organize it, i just throw all the papers into files, then when I get around to it I organize my files.
It keeps my desk clean and it makes it easier to find receipts when it comes to tax time.

I keep my filing cabinet near my desk so I dont even have to get up, i just turn around and grab all the papers and put them in the cabinet.

My niece is now 18...and I'm thinking of putting her to work doing nothing but sorting paperwork for me like once a week.
