Designers - How Do You Choose Which Fonts To Use?

For each of the sites you make?

Is there a certain method you use or do you just scroll through the ones you have and pick the one that works best on the overall design ?

Regards,

Lee

I look at the theme of the site and fit the font to it.

I go with the theme or niche of the project I'm working on.

Fat cartoonish type fonts in most cases for teen stuff...etc.

What types of font work best with other niches 'style' wise then?

i have over 4,200 fonts on this machine... yet i still go through everyone for each individual design. I'll stick to three different fonts for the design. Normally I try to find one thicker font, one script and one wildcard which fits with the other fonts well.

Depends I have 1,000's on my system.

For hardcore you see a lot of people use a font called earthquake.

For video sites I like to use the wider cleaner sharper looking fonts...not video galleries per se..but strictly video sites.

They seem to always be more of a metallic interface type design..so a cleaner font works best.

For bondage etc I have used in the past fonts that resemble typewriters..something shaky...blurry..or looks almost as if the letters are cut out of a magazine.

A good place to find fonts http://www.dafont.com

I just scroll down and pick what's appropriate with the design.

Its just which one feels right. But if you cant read it and it feels good dont use it.:2 cents:

i got rid of a ton of fonts - so many are just crap never to be usedand just clutter things up. i use about 20 on a regular basis - my favorite fonts are Vonnes, Futura, Century Bold, Impact, Placard, Arial - plus some nice 'display' fonts like the one in the GFY logo - that one is Fontloungy or something like that, plus a whole bunch of the small bitmap fonts which are readable at small sizes cuz they aren't anti-aliased.

i need to find the rest of the Futura family, i only have three of them.

I have over 1 000 on my system. I scroll down it in "FontList" and pick appropriate font.
