Finally got electric back on, it's been out since Charley!!!!!!

I came home from internext Monday and power had been out since Friday night. Trees down everywhere on power lines. A few trees are still on houses. Alot of damage in our area, can't imagine the damage in Ft. Myers area!!!

Holy crap, Lori! Glad to know it's all OK now - you should have hopped a plane to ATL :)

fatal attraction 08-20-2004 10:51 AM

I'm in Volusia County Florida.

here we plant the power lines in the ground just so we dont have issues like this.

Until I moved here, I always lived with underground wiring. I lose power more now because of the above ground wiring and an abundance of trees that like to fall on it when there's a strong breeze. :(

The problem arises when most wiring at the powerplant is above ground. There were pictures of huge electrical towers knocked down. Once of those suckers goes, it doesn't matter if you have underground wiring or not :(

Woo hoo! I know you are glad to have it back.

Nate and I actually left Internext early to come survey damage at our home and our rental houses, cause we couldn't get a hold of anyone to make sure everything was okay. We never lost power at my house. We have minor roof leak. But we spent 2 days digging my mother out of her house, she just got power back too. Glad you made it back safely!

Being without power is the most sucky part of the aftermath of a hurricane. It's usually 90 degrees every day, nothing is open if you want to leave the house and if you're a geek you go through electronics withdrawal:glugglug

I'm in New Smyrna Beach. We got power late last night, but there are still alot of people without power. I have a neighbor who had a tree fall through the roof. So, I feel very lucky! Very happy to have power again!! :)

I'm glad you are ok Lori. You should have called me up. We didn't get any damage over here, you could have stayed for a while. I know how bad it sucks to be wth out electricity, glad it is back up.

It was great seeing you down in Miami. We will have to have another Tampa or Orlando party soon. :)

loverboy 08-20-2004 12:20 PM

sorry to hear what happened to your area, hope things get well along the road.

since electricity is now back to normal, can you please give us a peak of the aftermath and post them at GFY?

My place in Cape Coral (just west of Ft. Meyers) fared very well. My stuff is all fairly new & up to the latest code. My boat didn't do as well. I lost the Bimini top & the structure holding it. About $1,000 bucks worth of damage & some trees that needed some work. I was lucky... a lot of my neighbors had Lanais caved in & roof damgage.

We got power back on Sunday. My area belongs to a cooperative and not FPL.

Firehorse 08-21-2004 02:36 AM

i use to go down there every year with my dad and brother, always stayed on atlantic ave.. loved it there.

but i wanna move somewhere warm next year, trying to collect some options :)
