i don't get this about the olympics...
if i did nothing but one thing for four years, i think i'd be 100% accurate in doing it. seriously, if all you did for four years is train train train particular routines in gymnastics, you would think some of these girls would nail every routine. i'm watching these girls now & they are falling all over the place, not sticking their landings, balance checking left and right. what gives???
|
simple: i would say nerves
also, aren't they only like 14 years old? |

i beleive you have to turn 16 in the year of the games. youngest you can be is 15. nerves i would guess, but these girls compete in world and national games all year long. i don't see as how the olympics would be much different. |
Nerves, enormous pressure and having a bad night. Any combination of the 3 will do :winkwink:

i thought some of the US gymnasts had been only 10 y.o. in past olympics, but i may be wrong... they may have started at 10 then joined the team at 16 as you say... *shrug* |

Olympics is every 4 years. So the pressure is on even more. They put a lot of pressure on them selves to do well and sometimes they just blackout during a routine. |
yep it's nerves..
It doesn't matter how many times you do something.. The olympics are like the mother of all events.. Most have only dreamed of getting that far.. :winkwink: |
so what about veterans? look at the russian girl that reminds me of uma thurman? shes been there before so it can't all be nerves.
|
I would say nerves too and all the pressure put on you...
Easy for us to be watching on the couch and criticizing them, but it's a whole different story when you're the one actually doing it. |
They are human and make mistakes. Nerves are a big part of it as well. Its one thing to practice for years at their home gym, compete in national events, and international events where the crowd is a lot smaller and sometimes the event is not even televised, but the Olympics... the whole world is watching!
I brush my teeth every morning, but I would piss my pants if a few million people were going to watch me do it :1orglaugh |

it's a lot harder than you think it is.

it is a LOT harder than you think it is. My sister did this shit for 15 years, you don't even begin to understand the pressure these kids go through.
were you competing in the olympic games before you were legal? didn't think so. |
it's cause youre a Monday Morning Quarterback...thats why :winkwink:

If it was really that easy why don't do try out for the olympics?
|
it takes a lot of temper ... but hey, they are still in the top 50 of the world in their sport wich is AWESOME
