How can you tell a HitBot if cheating your site?

How does one work?

All the hits will be from the same ip address.

That's what a brain dead hitbot will do.. The sophisticated ones (there's at least one for sale that does this) will go through one the many hundreds of publicly accessible proxies, which will change the ip to that of the proxy. But, there's only so many proxies, so you'll start to see the same ip address again eventually.

You'll also want to watch the frequency.. If they come in very fast, it's probably a (dumb) hitbot..

Referrer and User Agent unfortunately are no help - both easily fakeable.

Can productivity be spoofed too?

wouldnt a bunch of hits from a hitbot send the productivity way down?

I got this guy sending me 390% productivity. Ive never seen productivity like that...coming from 500 incoming hits in a few hours time. Of those 500 hits 1700 clicks.

Just too weird...too good to be true.

Cancel his account before the trade fucks up your site (if he's hit botting)... if he's legit he'll contact you.

Traffic from Zilla and Tommy is better than 390%. Sometimes they are close to 5 clicks per surfer. Maybe you just tweaked your site layout really well, and are getting more outclicks from surfers. Or you got a good trade partner.

And don't think a hit bot webmaster won't contact you. They don't all slink away with their tail between their legs, and hide under a rock. I had a dude bugging the shit out of me for more than a week, wanting to restart the trades.

Hitbots can cheat everything! The newest UCJ script is "almost uncheatable" because there is a special way of cheating it...

The productivity is easily munipulated by refs. There are THOUSANDS OF IPS so they are undetectable and you can set time frames up as well.

So you are screwed no matter what.

this is probably from asian based visitors. Most asian ISPs using transparent proxy (all users using same IP on the web!) so, this makes that kind problems (or like 1000 clicks to sponsor but repeated IP, so most countries banned from this reason (from sponsors) too bad eh?)

if you're using UCJ, simply copy paste IPs here for this trade.

Yes I was bombarded with asian traffic from purefuck.com ... i am pretty sure its not cheating but they are just filtering out all there shit traffic and trying to bring back CC traffic so there are a lot of the asin ips in the tgp/cj2 circles.
