IE automatically closes Spybot's homepage

I just got a friend's laptop here to test it a little. I decided to run a virus check before doing anything with the laptop.
Whenever I try to access the Spybot's Search & Destroy homepage to download their software the IE automatically closes that page. Any ideas why?

Mr. Mojo Risin 08-19-2004 09:43 AM

and you know what is very strange....I checked this topic on the laptop and IE closes the window again....

eiht_98 08-19-2004 09:48 AM

I also tried to download the software from my server and when the transfer was completed it said that the file can't be saved on the hard disk....wtf is this.....

stocktrader23 08-19-2004 09:49 AM

Something new. My guess would be a spyware maker added to his program to not let you get anything to take him out.

Project-Shadow 08-19-2004 09:55 AM

I'm guessing it deletes anything/everything that has the name spybot in it. Try renaming the file and see if that works.

make sure you get all the windows recommended updates. Scanning for spyware is sometimes not enough

Definitely sounds like some spyware is in control there. Thats typical behavior these days..

eiht_98 08-19-2004 10:35 AM

fuck it...how do I remove this shit

Stramm 08-19-2004 10:39 AM

open task manager... check for strange running processes and end them. If you're not sure if a task is either eg. a mousedriver or spyware then ask google. When you end the spyware process you can access all websites again and download anti spyware tools.

tried that and it doesn't work

monro 08-19-2004 11:21 AM

If you are using XP just go back to an old backup. /system map/

After that install Firefox!

freeadultcontent 08-19-2004 11:25 AM

Install and run it off of floppies or a burnt cd done from a safe pc.

Then you haven't closed all spyware tasks. Be aware they hide very good. Like some spyware is listed as scvhost.exe while a win system process is called svchost.exe. Just try to shut down everything and double check the remaining stuff.
If it doesn't help have a look at your services too

mookienow 08-19-2004 12:15 PM

on xp it should be listed as a service...
look in regedit under
Hkey local machine\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run for anything running with a switch...

RicardoB 08-19-2004 12:34 PM

Step one press ctrl - alt - del

Step two kill every process you do not need to run explorer or Msie

Step 3 download ya killer

Step 4 install and use.

Usualy works for me.
