I think Bart won in Los Angeles 1984, but there was a Commie boycott that year, so his victory was tainted. Much like Mary Lou Retton who would have lost to Mostepanova if the Sovets had been allowed to compete.

As for Hamm, he got a bit lucky. His score on the botched vault was a wee bit inflated. :2 cents:

Bart did not win the all around -- he didn't even win a medal, nor did Gaylord. The men's TEAM won those boycotted games, but Hamm is the first EVER American male to win gold in the Olympic all around.

In '84...

Gushiken (JPN) won gold. Vidmar (USA) won silver. Ning (CHN) won bronze.



Vidmar is the only other American male to ever MEDAL in the Olympic all around.

That was great. I just hope one of the american women win the all around tonight. I do hope Svetlana at least gets the silver since this is her last games though.
