Am I the only one...(Music choices for webmaser events)

I see somg big names associated with Player's Ball and other webmaster events, but most of those are hiphop/R&B artists. If I'm going to something called a "Ball", shouldn't I expect to be able to slow dance? Can you do that to hiphop?

How about a show with nothing but classic rock? That would kick ass. Is that possible? Music that most of us grew up on and can idnetify with and sing along to. Good stuff.

Ice 08-18-2004 11:34 AM

Dream Theater would put on a kick ass show :thumbsup

JSA Matt 08-18-2004 11:36 AM

Hence the name "Player's ball"

Trixxxia 08-18-2004 11:36 AM

Something like a '60's, 70's & 80's' Retro Ball? Would be fun!

Enough about Dream Theater. Goodness gracious! Hey, if someone can line up Van Halen or Kiss or Crue to play, I wouldn't miss it for the world!

Actually yes they do. They're incredible live. So is Queensryche.

But I was thinking more along the lines of classic rock. Stuff like Hendrix, the Doors, the Who, Jefferson Airplane, Skynard, Aerosmith, etc.

Granted the band that does this sort of show is a cover band, 'cause most of the above mentioned are no longer together, (most are dead), but you get the idea.

JSAMatt: Okay, so it's the Player's Ball. Fine and dandy. If you don't like the music, you're not a player? Bah humbug.

I'm not trying to dis. I'm just seeking alternatives.

TheGoldenChild 08-18-2004 11:40 AM

saw VH last night in Diego-
Great show.

However Elli- as most webmasters don't fully understand the importance of sponsors on events like this...

Van Halen got paid a Million dollar guarantee last night

Kiss is about the same..
Crue?

If they did performe would be a minimum of $250,000

See? people just don't understand that adult companies don't fork over this kind of dough anymore
It's not 1999 anymore...and people aren't making a million a month on their programs like they used to.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner! That's exactly what I'm talkin about. :)

Elli: Crue and Kiss and Van Hagar would be awesome, but how about some Def Leppard, Aerosmith, AC DC, Poison??

Damn, this is sounding better and better all the time...

It's not meant that way... The name "Player's Ball" represents a rap/r&b vibe, that's why people attend it in the first place. I would be all about a classic rock show, but not at the Player's Ball. :glugglug

we can only wish :( I'd fly to china for a convention if it meant DT was there.

Unfortunately most people don't like DT let alone even understand the music. It's musical information overload for most.

So how much for Snoop to play? Ice-T ain't cheap either.

I'm just looking for something a bit different. Hell, even a local band who can really wail on covers would do me just fine.

Dream Theater would own them on stage.

cherrylula 08-18-2004 11:45 AM

A local starving punk band would be better than any of that stuff. There are some badass rockabilly bands in LA that would blow people away and probably work for beer.

Nothing cooler than a hot guy banging away on a stand up bass. :Graucho

benc 08-18-2004 11:46 AM

Theres plenty of classic rock bands that were once at least sorta big that could be gotten somewhat cheap. Surely cheaper than Snoop Dogg.

I don't think it will happen though. A lot of webmasters going to these shows are under 25, and don't know what good music is. These large parties are mostly to dazzle newbies, and most newbies are young.

Gotcha. Sorry for the misinterp.

Okay, not at the Player's Ball....but could there not be another party/show? Granted, the Player's Ball is the biggie, but maybe another party just for us old fogeys?

I'd be down for the Fogey's Ball :)

Elli 08-18-2004 11:48 AM

There are plenty of really awesome covers bands for Kiss, AC/DC, Ozzy, Metallica, etc. And I'm fairly sure they don't ask for 250k guarantees. :)

Ice, we need to talk more in Vegas! :) Don't be a stranger!

Tala, I think we need to find a good rock club at the next show and crash the party. :Graucho I saw Leppard when they came to Vancouver last year and they were AWESOME.

Tala 08-18-2004 11:48 AM

Now see, if we were having a gathering in Seattle, I know a local band that kicks ASS and are really cheap and a lot of fun. Classic Rock cover band. Good times.

Dream Theater's stage show owns just about everyone. Trust me.

Elli 08-18-2004 11:49 AM

omg we sound so old. hahah Welcome to the world of your parents, eh?

LMFAO

That's what we shall call this: The Fogey's Ball. Dress code: Comfy. Canes and glasses optional.

cherrylula 08-18-2004 11:50 AM

If someone was really smart they would track down one of those all girl ACDC cover bands. Los Angeles has at least 3 of them and they rock pretty ok.

Basic_man 08-18-2004 11:51 AM

Wut you mean by slow dance?

I got to see Leppard in Nashville back in 92. AWESOME show!

JSA Matt 08-18-2004 11:52 AM

You can probably get Bad Company for about $20 bucks :1orglaugh

Slow dance translation: Bump and grind in a slow, sultry manner instead of a fast, desperate manner.

Manowar 08-18-2004 01:14 PM

Bon Jovi live at internext would rock :1orglaugh

DarkBob 08-18-2004 01:23 PM

I vote for a Death Metal Ball.

Slickcash Lisa 08-18-2004 01:56 PM

Nothing but classic rock you say?? Id be there in a second!! I love all different types of music, but rock is a fav. 10 points for the Rock Ball.

speakthetruth 08-18-2004 01:57 PM

Dream Theater kicks ass.

We have one here in San Diego as well. Can't remember the names. You get a bunch of good local bands and they would totally be down for doing the show for dirt fucking cheap. They would play for beer, exposure, and the opportunity to hang out with tons of beautiful women in a heartbeat.
