Hurricane Charley owned us.

So Friday I was posting about hurricane charley heading our way. The eye past about 14 miles east of my house. I made out pretty good house is standing with roof intact and all windows. Shed in my yard disappeared along with some contents and my daughters toys either gone or broken, swingset, trampoline etc... Alot of people got far worse damage. The further east you go the more damage you start seeing. Alot of homes trashed in an area where the population is mostly retirees. We lost power before charley even made landfall on friday, and power is still out and not set to return soon. I picked up a generator and have been cleaning up and bringing MRE's and ice/water to some elderly in the harder hit areas that I know. I have a bunch of video and stills I will be uploading very slowly over dialup I might add. But Im glad to even have the dialup at this point. So keep an eye out for the pics and video, running off generator and dialup so process is slow.

yeah I was hit too, not much damage to houses in orlando except trees falling on them ;-(

anyways, the worst part seems to be power being down and not being able to drink the water... over the weekend it was the worst but I just got power last night and finally went back home. I had to throw out all my food in the fridge, but was glad I had internet...

Good that you didn't get hurt.

:thumbsup

Glad you guys are safe, and sorry for the damage...I'd be willing to let anyone who needs to crash at my pad for a week or two do so.

Which town do you live in? We thought it was coming to Tampa. Very scary storm! I wish you the best on getting back to normal quickly!

I actually live in North Port, but Im approx 1 mile from Port Charlotte, the Charlotte county line. So our end of north port got hit pretty good. Honestly the worse part is not having any power in this heat, but luckily I was able to get my hands on a generator and window ac unit. Alot of others were not so fortunate. Some of the trailer parks were just demolished. Heres a few links with pictures.

Small business owners were also hit very hard. A friend of mine working for a bicycle/small motor repair shop the place is gutted. These places dont even have anywhere to relocate. Alot of people without jobs anymore. My wife included the store she worked at was damaged heavily also.

So sad our prayers are with u guys.Wish u best of luck.

twinkley 08-18-2004 10:37 AM

Well, thankfully, we were only 0wned a little ...

No roof damage per-se, and the trees in our backyard are still standing. However, Charlie took the solar panels for our pool right off our roof. They are now hanging down the side of the house ... ugh

My thoughts to all those in punta gorda and port charlotte that took the brunt of the storm :(

:eek7 That is what I call a bad flight. The worse that has ever happened to me is thinking the plane was going to crash or having someone sit next to me that would NOT stop talking and kept poking me in the arm when I was pretending to be asleep.

Glad it all worked out for you guys!

pubenemy 08-18-2004 07:21 PM

Thanks for the support, other than being miserable from the no power/water/ac we made out good. I really feel bad for some that I delived water/ice/MRE's too. 70+ year old people skinny as rails with no roof on their house anymore.

wdsguy 08-18-2004 08:11 PM

atleast your house is still standing, thats the impt part

pubenemy 08-19-2004 07:54 PM

My buddy moved over to Miami Beach earlier this year from out here in Cali. He said they were nervous about 3 days before it hit land. He also said he has never seen it rain so hard. I'm happy to deal with earthquakes every once in while. Fuck worrying about that crazy shit every year :(

TweetyBird 08-25-2004 04:42 AM

good thing you didn't get much damage

I'll drink to that :drinkup :winkwink:

MickeyG 08-25-2004 05:14 AM

Glad to hear things are ok for you guys, I can understand the lack of power, when Andrew hit we lost power for 3 weeks. I still remember it very clearly. It sucked!

jimmyf 08-25-2004 05:52 AM

got a friend that lives in Port Charlotte, called him and he said about $20,000.00 damage 2 his house.

His 2 sisters were not as lucky

Reak 08-25-2004 05:53 AM
