OK. I admit. I don't know Jack Shit about soccer. But even I know that it would take a miracle for Iraq to win the gold, especially against teams like Germany and Brazil.

Let them put forth some effort in fighting Al Zawari and his army of savages.

I checked the matches, and these are still the pre-quarter finals plays, so they meet the big countries if they survive this group (okay Portugal is in this group). But it looks like it they will....

Is Iraq that good in soccer? I thought all the teams from Arab nations stunk. Seems like you always see Saudi Arabia getting beat 12-0 by Eurpoean teams.

I thought Portugal was supposed to be big shit. Of course, every time I hear about them, they seem to have been the victim of some monumental upset. Didn't the USA beat them in world cup? They were also upset in Euro cup, weren't they?

Are you trying to say they shouldn't be at the olympics at all? Simply because their country is at war? I would think that would be the BEST time to go to the Olympics. Better to lose a soccer game than to get your head blown off by a car bomb.

Iraq has long played football/soccer ..it isn't that much of a shock

Plus soccer at the olympics is under 23s team with 3 senior players in the team. Anything can happen. Australia is playing well also.

yup can't remember who won last time because my brain has failed but it was a country people wouldn't expect. It makes it feel more like when the olympics had the amateur rule.

I can't tell you how much war footage I've seen with Iraqi kids playing soccer in the background. That's dedication. It's amazing how much better they play when they don't think they will be tortured for playing poorly.
