Will there be another Internext in FL next year?

I am soooo glad we didn't do anything big this year. The floor was only halfway filled missing most if the biggest sponsors. The parties had too many locals. The gfy warmup and xbiz cocktail parties was the most lucrative parties I attended.

Seriously I am shocked that not much has been said about the slowness of the show.

The show as a whole was a disappointment for me. Got to see some old friends and made some new ones but I personally think this was a warning sign to the industry. Is it a slowdown? Is it the new laws being proposed? Is it AVN losing their dominance in the adult webmaster gatherings? Is it the number of shows that we have to attend now?

How about you? What do you think? Will there be another show in FL?

CDSmith 08-17-2004 08:24 AM

What, a storm prevents a lot of people from going due to cancelled flights and people think there will be no event next year because of it?

that's.... well...... ridiculous.

Meta Ridley 08-17-2004 08:31 AM

I gaurentee there will be no internext in Florida next year.

Ill even bet you money. :Graucho

This poll was for people that actually attended the show, if you did please provide me a pic so I can meet you next time :Graucho

The storm didn't keep the sponsors away dumbass. Something else did. The sponsors pay money for these things months in advance. Besides booths, t-shirts parties etc, there is a lot of money spent on these events. A storm that didn't even get near the show did not keep them away.

The next time you want to post something in a thread of mine please try to make it intelligent.

Sorry people CDsmith is a thorn in my ass and I had to get that off my chest.

I wasn't there but personally I think that a change of venue might be a good idea just to add some new air to the whole thing:2 cents:

I am thinking the same thing. I wonder how this turnout will affect Vegas....

Peaches 08-17-2004 09:33 AM

AFAIK, AVN has a contract with the hotel for another 2 years.

Ergo, I vote "yes". :)

It was a good show. It wasn't a great show and there were a lot of people not there due to the storm (wussies, all of you! :))

A show in FL in August isn't the best thing in the world, but having the hotel to ourselves has always been a great advantage.

Doctor Dre 08-17-2004 09:55 AM

I'm only going to vegas . Vegas is definitly THE adult show .

If there is anything in MTL and Quebec, I might go .

Sharpie 08-17-2004 09:58 AM

There are a lot of pros & cons to all the shows....... The Diplomat is a beautiful property! But if you think the prices are high in Auguest...... imangine trying to do a show there in peak season, when the weather is nice.

You can't do shows in peak season, if you want to see a good representation of both sponosrs & attendees. All the costs associated with it are just too high. The best you can do is try and pick a fringe time frame. We have been very LUCKY with most of the Cybernets. The fringe months we have chosen have been very palatable. San Diego was especially refreshing:-) But, if we had used one of the more prestigious hotels on the beach - it would not have been affordable for many.

It is a fine line trying to find a hotel (that will accept an adult show) Everyones tastes & pocket books are different. We try and stay in the middle - but often the places we choose are not nice enough for some...... and barely affordable for others...... That is why we change locations often.

mardigras 08-17-2004 10:08 AM

Internext should be moved to New Orleans with most parties at clubs on Bourbon Street:winkwink:

I can understand that, it's a fine line those in charge of planning have to deal with. However I am thinking there is more too it than the weather and would like others opinions based on this show before starting to make plans for the vegas show....

The storm may not have gotten near the show, but the preception that the media created is that it was. A lot of bad publicity at the wrong time. Like with any show its what you make it. I happen to like Florida, So I will be there next time as well:thumbsup

MichaelP 08-17-2004 10:57 AM

hehe Taboo Dude.

I was very pleased to meet you and Beth in person finally.

You know what? I love smaller and more intimate shows...

I may be biased :winkwink: but I think that ONE BIG internext like Vegas once a year is enough...

The fun part about smaller shows is that you have plenty of time to meet everyones, and people are less stressed trying to see the other 3999 attendees in 3 days, so the contacts are way better :2 cents:

I did heard about storm Charley preventing some attendees to show up and it is a sad thing, but even with less people, I really enjoyed the Tradeshow. Some parties are another story though :(

But of course I will be there next year :thumbsup

I like it and will be there as well. I did manage to do some business this year. Not nearly what we did last year though and after the turnout of this show, I will more than likely not get a booth next year. Well I don't know yet, we spent over 40,000 got some branding but was hoping to accomplish more....

When you start dealing in those amounts it is time to start planning very carefully. I know other companies spend more than that for shows. I would not doubt some companies spent over 100,000 in Vegas (considering everything, airfare, meals, promos etc) You didn't see anything like that at this show and I am curious as hell as to if we will ever see it again.

I know FL is always slower than Vegas but not that slow.

Just Rob 08-17-2004 11:15 AM

I had a great time at the show! I look forward to the Florida show every year... I can't say the same thing about New Orleans... i've been to two out there and personally you'd have to drag me back there... but thats just my opinion.

Wow - I can't believe I didn't run into you the entire weekend!!

I agree that the show floor seemed empty, but I'd have to put part of that responsibility on the booths themselves. I understand that each booth is the same size... but they don't have to have the same volume level! That place seriously needed MUSIC to liven up the atmosphere.

Another thing, which was great for me as I prefer to network off the showfloor, was that we didn't have the normal Florida summer weather. Usually, the afternoon downpours get people to stay on the floor since they can't hang out by the pool or on the balconies.

Third thing I noticed... Two years ago, rather than large parties "off campus" things were more centralized to the hotel so you didn't need to waste time shuttling. I really miss the yacht parties!!!! Heck, one night we hit THREE!!! (since they remain docked). You're away from the hotel, meeting new groups of people, and you can walk across the street to get back whenever you want.... perfect!

I love summer Internext, I just think this was an off-year (I hope)

Cheers!

It was nice meeting you as well. I have some pics to upload but cannot do it here from my house due to our server firewall. Once I get back in the office I will upload a pic or too.

I think a lot of people are starting to see better results from the smaller shows. I know we are... you hit the nail on the head. It is easier to get to see everyone at a smaller show than 3000 attendees in a three day time span.

We are going to try to make it up there for your expo :thumbsup

Attended some seminars, parties and worked the lobby and floor whenever possible, I hate we didn't run into each other.

Yeah, the yaht would have been used again, but I think we rocked the yaht too hard last year :Graucho

If the yaht is a rocking don't come a knocking :winkwink:

I hope it was an off year as well.

EZRhino 08-17-2004 11:33 AM

I can still see it happening again next year. Just better planning is needed

cosis 08-17-2004 11:38 AM

vegas is just so much better period

Connor 08-17-2004 12:08 PM

Personally I like Florida better than Vegas. More relaxing, for one. Better for business. This year's show wasn't the best ever, but that's more a sign of the times, I think. Industry is in "conservative" mode. I hope there's a show in Florida next year... and actually I hope it returns to the Diplomat.

ShellyCrash 08-17-2004 12:13 PM

Next year will be better :thumbsup

NoCarrier 08-17-2004 12:16 PM

I might go next year.. If the majority of comments are positive, I don't see why they would change the location..

KC 08-17-2004 12:19 PM

The best thing about the FL shows is the Diplomat Resort.

I hate Florida in August. If they change the venue, how about someplace with a better climate!! That humidity is fucking brutal.

Tala 08-17-2004 12:21 PM

Whatever happens, please do not move anything up to Tennessee. If you do, I quit.

Seriously though, I'd love to have a serious gathering in Seattle. OMG.

Florida was fun, though, save for the humidity. I rather liked the smaller show. Good and easy to meet people. :)

Thanks for the laugh Tala :) we do have a couple of rednecks in our woods, but doesn't every region :Graucho
