http://www.apple.com/switch/

i spent the first 3 days of last week on a powerbook 17" a friend brought over while staying with me, i think its time.

RicardoB 08-16-2004 09:20 AM

whats wrong with macs then, i pose the same question.

the reason I use macs for audio is because that is the best.

Macs run evry major recording studio and definitely every studio ive been in. All my engineer buddies are on mac, and mac is the best for digital audio, always has been.

i dont ue macs for porn.

but i am thinking about going totally mac here.

i have used windows since 3.1, never liked it.

ive been usuing mac since before Performas came out, loved them all the time.

the reason i use macs, because I like the experience I have had with them over the past decade. experience is what dictates wat i do,.

More Booze 08-16-2004 09:23 AM

Switch to linux, I will probably do it sooner or later.
Just need to learn to use it a bit better first.

tony286 08-16-2004 09:25 AM

If the cost to convert wasnt so great I would go to mac. I worked for a company that bought and sold used Macs . I worked on a older one and I have to say it never crashed. I wasnt crazy about the GUI but it was a good machine.

Fletch XXX 08-16-2004 09:25 AM

why would I switch to something i have no clue about vs something i have used side by side with pcs for over a decade?

ive never used linux nor will i even think about putting both my business and hobby under something I have no exoperience with.

fuck learning curves

Preacher 08-16-2004 09:27 AM

I am not going to install it.
My system runs stable as it is.
no need to change things. :)

NoCarrier 08-16-2004 09:30 AM

It's better to wait a couple of weeks.. I used to be a tester/localizer for Microsoft and not all the bugs/problems are closed when they release something.

:1orglaugh

So be patient guys and wait.

Fabuleux 08-16-2004 09:32 AM

Just stay with Windows 2000.

Do you even use those 40+ programs? If not, you shouldn't be bitching.
How many of your current programs will work on Mac?

QuaWee 08-16-2004 09:38 AM

yea, I usually wait a month or two for big updates, especially from Microsoft.

jukeboxfrank 08-16-2004 09:39 AM

I installed sp2 and did not have a problem. Those problems are
caused by the firewall blocking ports. If you know your way
around a firewall then it is simple to fix.

in case yuou missed it, i am not a new mac user.

in fact the first computer I used was an Apple in grade school.

as far as programs are concerned, all macromedia, and audio applications I run are mac as well.

also, having done graphics and audio on macs for so long, its the same damn thing except you dont have to deal with microsoft crap.

bitching? oh man where do these guys come from?

Fletch XXX 08-16-2004 10:04 AM

also:

many of the audio programs I run are MAC ONLY.

pc needs to catch up.

mac only and bad fucking ass

reaktor rules.

Veterans Day 08-16-2004 10:06 AM

so whats the biggest downside to mac? besides price? What about all the little scripts and programs I download and games and miscellaneous windows only apps? If the only advantage to a mac is audio and graphics, then it's not for me. Whats so much better? Educate me

diesel 08-16-2004 10:13 AM

The new g5 is completely different from what they sold so far.

If you go for Mac then only g5.

I have Xeon 2.4 and G5 2k ... G5 is faster on many many ways ...
I believe Macs just started to rule the world ..
The last year they had amazing sales.

its not, mac is prosumer. if you want to be consumer level thats fine. this is not a mac vs pc thread.

if you want to download free little programs and crap all day stick with PC. i dont download crap like that. i have 5 pcs why would i need another???

if you want to be professional and use your machine with bought software and care not about spending money on quality gear, its not for you then.

this thread isnt really about macs other than I was voicing my aggrivation with pcs lately. i have no desire to turn people on to macs.

first thing that comes up about mac is the price.

do you realize the software i posted above is 600 bucks? I have 7k worth of BOUGHT programs, you think I care about which computer costs less?

gimme abreak, i need stability and professional gear, price is only a concern in the end.

EviLGuY 08-16-2004 10:34 AM

I'm in no rush to install it.. my computer is working fine right now.

Ditto here as well. Just set an exception in the firewall and no problems.

Serge Litehead 08-16-2004 11:15 AM

installed SP2 few days ago couldn't be happier with windows so far, seeing greater system performance, internet browsing seems a bit faster, everything runs very smooth, no freacking popups, not even one. you get information bar in IE which is like status bar only on top, when you get to the site with popups or something shady in them, IE blocks it and pops a little msg in information bar giving you choise to temprarly enable/disable blocking for the site or permanently.
sure there will be patches, nothing's perfect

be adwised SP2 doesn't work on systems with stolen serials
-=-=-
linux isn't good for people who love adobe, macromedia and bunch of other software. no matter how good the system is, untill it gets full support of commertial software companies it will stay well behind.

Face (o_0) 08-16-2004 04:44 PM

im not touching that shit with a 10000 foot pole

s9ann0 08-16-2004 04:52 PM

>> I used to be a tester/localizer for Microsoft and not all the bugs/problems are closed when they release something.

this is truly surprising and shocking news! :o)

I installed RC2 and it was ok once I disabled the gay security stuff and the release one I have it on and ever since some programs seem to "hang" for like 30 seconds or more than kick back in.. the net seems to do the same as well it could be something else though

woj 08-16-2004 05:22 PM

no problems at all with sp2 here :thumbsup

mardigras 08-16-2004 05:56 PM

I think I'll wait at least until they migrate it to the Windows Update page.

X37375787 08-16-2004 06:01 PM

done deal, systems here been updated to SP2 and there is no troubles yet to be discovered

wdsguy 08-16-2004 06:13 PM

haven't done it yet as I heard about alot of problems with this sp2

fr8 08-16-2004 06:18 PM

After going threw the list I didnt find anything that I would be affected with. So im safe. But I will probly still wait.
