Short list of apps that will NOT work after XP SP2 applied...

Here's a short list of apps (40 or so) that will need adjusting to operate correctly after you install XP SP2

MS KB Article

I'm sure the list will grow as more brave souls install it...

jacked 08-16-2004 08:54 AM

what in the gay atleast it's only 40 i would have expected atleast a couple of hundred not to work

RicardoB 08-16-2004 09:00 AM

Linux keeps looking better :thumbsup

Doctor Dre 08-16-2004 09:31 AM

Do they stop wroking at all or you just have to enable them in the firewall ?

JayJay 08-16-2004 09:39 AM

What are you talking about ?
It just says you may have to enable them

RFlagg 08-16-2004 10:47 AM

you'll need to read the kb for details...

most of them will be fine with a little tweaking, of course ymmv...

The title of the article:

Some programs seem to stop working after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2

EviLGuY 08-16-2004 10:58 AM

Yet one more reason to wait a while on the upgrade...

retrograde 08-16-2004 11:06 AM

Has anyone here actually installed this yet?

BRISK 08-16-2004 11:09 AM

An FTP client? WTF?

FUCK YOU MICROPOO!

Fletch XXX 08-16-2004 11:10 AM

RFlagg, awesome reference man.

I think i will toss that DVD on today now... thats a good 6+ hours of fun.

Randall Flagg is the fucking man.

RFlagg 08-16-2004 11:15 AM

I've installed it on a few sandbox machines, and it is without a doubt 100% sheep fodder...you start out on the first reboot with a full screen Sesame St. style wizard holding your hand thru the automatic update config...and just goes downhill from there, considering that most of the sheep are still looking for the "anykey".

mammy 08-17-2004 12:06 AM

haha
don't see in this list the main programm that will work incorrectly - windows xp :)

Manowar 08-17-2004 12:44 AM

no fucking kidding. I'm terrified to see how LongHorn turns out. Seems every bigger and better OS they release is as buggy as the hype is.

I'm happy as a pig in shit with win2k.

I will install Fedora once I get my fat ass to the store and buy some CDrs.
I run Mandrake now but I thought it might be better if I run them same OS my server does. :)

Seems like you didn't read this article ...
Anyway, why to install something I don't need ?

SmokeyTheBear 08-17-2004 01:33 AM

they forgot to add a few things to that list.

Toshiba power saver. ( for toshiba laptops )
Microsoft broadband networking
Several chat services such as trillian ychat cheetahchat and yahelite.

Superterrorizer 08-17-2004 01:37 AM

I waited a week to install SP2. All this media hype is all surrounding the gay Microsoft Firewall that SP2 installs. Turn the firewall off and you're fine.

Microsoft is still a bunch of fucking idiots, but all you have to do is turn that shit off.

What pisses me off is having icons added to my quick launch bar without my permission. That is fucking annoying.

If you can figure out how to turn off the firewall, you shouldn't be using a computer.

If SP2 makes you want to switch to a mac or linux, more power to you, the less exploitable Microsoft boxes on the earth the better off we'll all be.

Toshiba power saver still functions normally, and so does Trillian....

I guess maybe it effects only some users :-/

i agree... i hate software firewalls..

the simple firewall on my router works fine..

havent installed SP2 yet.. but first thing i'll do .. is to disable the windows firewall fo'shizzle.
