The problem here is that many people have a mistaken concept of God. If we conceive of God as physical, anthropomorphic (like man) being, the question of God?s origin is valid. However, such a concept of God is alien to the Bible and to common sense. Consider the following descriptions of God from the Bible:

John 4: 24
God is a Spirit:...

Matthew 16:17
...for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my father which is in heaven.

Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that He should...;

Obviously, the descriptions and concepts of God given in these passages are that God is a spiritual entity. He exists outside of the three-dimensional, physical world in which we live.

Not only is God described as being outside space, but He is also described as being outside of time. Consider the following:

2 Peter 3:8
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Psalm 90:4
For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

Psalm 102:27
But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.

Acts 1:7
...It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in His power.

If God is a being that is unlimited in time, and if He has access to every piece of time as if it were now, the question of who created God is an invalid question. The problem is like asking a student to draw a four-sided triangle. The terminology is self-contradictory.

I like you a whole lot man, that is the best answer about any thread relating to God on here in a while. Makes more sense than Boobmaster getting upset and screaming at atheist. :1orglaugh

Respect for that answer.

Jeff: No offense taken man. Everybody believes in what they believe in. I don't try to crash down your throat and ask for you to believe. As long as you were told and made your decision, thats all that matters.:thumbsup

DAMN RIGHT :1orglaugh

Fabien 08-16-2004 05:29 AM

What the fuck do we know about it
TELL ME ?

So funny that people REALLY think that "they know the truth"

Hey, we don't know shit about anything. I'm not saying something big/good (whatever...) exists and i'm not saying that it doesn't

WE DON'T KNOW
Period.:2 cents:

jayeff 08-16-2004 05:37 AM

Faith is "belief without evidence", even belief despite evidence. So even if one were to take the question seriously, its answer or lack of an answer is unlikely to shake anyone's faith.

By the same token, if there were a satisfactory answer, I doubt people would be queuing at the churches. Religious faith isn't something you arrive at by logical analysis.

abyss_al 08-16-2004 05:38 AM

i had that discussion the other night with someone else, went on for hours... i brought up the same thing, and they froze..

i said if everything comes from something else then something/someone must have created god also... it got all crazy

mardigras 08-16-2004 06:24 AM

It's kind of like thinking about the universe. Although it's said to be infinite you know there has to be a finite number of physical things at any given time, but if somehow you could be instantly transported to the exact "edge" of the universe it's hard to fathom that you couldn't take a step further or reach an arm's length out or that there's not even empty space past that point.

noone, God started out as a self-realising process, you're part of it, you maybe your own god within your borders of consciousness, but at the end you choose to be part of something larger than creating your own world which in most cases half functional. God is you, everyone and everything around you, ideas, thoughts, chemistry, phisycs.
