Interstate 5 the autobahn of America ?

Just got back from a road trip to Cali. I had my cruise set at around 90 mph (which is 20 mph over speed limit) and I was still slow for the traffic. And surprisingly I didn't see even a single cop on I-5.

as long as its not a long holiday weekend.

Pretty much, every time I go up north from So. Cal I pretty much go about 90 mph and sometimes I feel like I'm at a stop sign by the speed the other folks are passing me at.

I fucking hate that freeway.

Its all good til some asshole doing 100 crashes, and a big rig does the jack-knife.

I have seen several accidents on that freeway. I think I even saw someone die and was within inches of being way fucked up myself.

So many big trucks take that highway, and a lot of commuters who work in LA speeding to and from work in between the big rigs. It gets really messy.

But that is the So Cal part anyhow.

get a radar detector . . . . they nailed me for 102+ outside of Coalinga

i just drove from sf to la earlyer today down 5 i think i saw about 3 high way planes and like 5 people pulled over it's not the autobahn of america not even close.

Tat2Jr 08-16-2004 01:24 AM

Since moving down to So Cal about 5 years ago I've been passed by cops when going 85+ 3 times..... crazy. First time I about shit my pants when i saw him out of the corner of my eye. Just stayed the same speed, and didn't freak out, and zooooom, he went right by. Same with the other two times. Up in Oregon if you were going 57 they'd pull your ass over and beat ya!

Diabolical Cord 08-16-2004 01:27 AM

Sometimes, you'll get a bunch of people going 90 on I15 from LA to Vegas.

Nathan 08-16-2004 01:32 AM

90mph is really not autobahn level ;)

Come again when you go over 130mph...

Yep, I'm on the 5 all the time, but the 15 to Vegas is even crazier. The key is to just stay with the flow of traffic. My parents come over to so cal and drive 65 and I keep telling them to speed up and stay with traffic. Seems only going the speed limit creates more havoc and increases accident risk than if you just went 80 with everyone else.

Yes they do. The planes fly along the free way and use markers on the ground to track the speed of the cars. They call it down to gorund units who do the stops.

webseth 08-16-2004 03:08 AM

i never got over 15mph on I-5, when is there no traffic enough to hit 90?

thought they used choppers for that sort of thing - not the harley kind, but the flying sort. Using planes for that sorta thing sounds a bit strange to me.

Here they use heli birds - caught me a couple of time on that account. Maybe its because planes run too fast out of highway to cover in denmark :D
