I agree with you, I have always thought of the Olympics as an event where everyone sets asides their diffrences and join to compete in peace. Maybe he was scared to get his ass kicked...still doesn't make it right. Many nations have problems, yet they put them aside for these games....

My Ex-husband SKULL-BUITRE ran off to Colombia with OUR money and screwed me after I helped him build OUR business.
He is hiding in Colombia and never paid the settlement $ from our divorce!

The Olympics has always been about politics... people keep confusing their own romantic and symbolic ideals of what *should* be, with the reality of how things are and always have been.

... i mean... people ARE in fact representing their countries.

I agree..no matter where I go I have my flag and wave it with pride. I anxiously watch my country and jump with joy when they have won a medal, and feel pride that those athletes made it there!

Let me put it another way... .you are being a bit naive if you think this particular athlete was not acting on the instructions of the Iranian government.

The Olympics is exactly like the UN except the delegates don't have fat guts. Iran had the perfect chance to make a political statement against Isreal (a country which is very close to nuking their nuclear energy plant/atomic program)... why... because the whole world is watching and it's the perfect chance to make a political statement.

Iran doesn't recognize Israel as a state (can you blame them?). Therefore they won't compete against them at the Olympics, which in part would be validating them as a legitimate country.

I think the Iranian competitor is justified in his actions.

I'm sure the Iranian has no problem competing against Jewish competitors.

He doesn't want to compete against someone representing Israel, Jewish or otherwise.

Olympic competition has been fueled by hatred/dislike amongst countries for decades. Hitler was very upset about his athaletes being beaten by other races, Americans went crazy when the US team beat Russia in hocky. The olympics have been the stage for politcal actions, such as the fist raise seen 'round the world.

launching a missle against a place does not make it any more or less a country, just makes it a place where people you want dead are.

I am no fan of the State of Israel but after reading the comments made by the Iranian wrestler and the Iranian delegation their country should be banned from the Games. What if I had refused to wrestle one of those evil filthy raghead Islamic motherfuckers? I would be branded a racist too. and to me that is what we should do..question. If we don't question then we aren't doing out job and trying to make sure things are don't correctly.
