Yup. Us robotics was kind of worried to do it at first, then they went for it. Figuring any publicity is good.

p.s. sheer in your face spam was taco bell in demolition man.

riosluts 08-15-2004 12:19 PM

umm yeah i remember seeing that in the movie. I though it was just some other US Robotics company

Wiggles 08-15-2004 12:21 PM

Wernt they bought out by 3com a few years ago?

unconnected 08-15-2004 01:59 PM

no, the firm is called USR or US robotics..

I was thinking the same thing when I watched that movie..

Either the movie people are going to get their asses sued off, or they made a deal with USR(more probably) to use their name..

Really made me laugh though

"Watch for U.S. Robotics featured in this summer's epic action spectacular - I, ROBOT from Twentieth Century Fox -- scheduled to open July 16, 2004 (International launch dates may vary- see www.irobotmovie.com for details). Starring Will Smith as a Chicago Police Detective, the movie is based upon the nine stories in Isaac Asimov's "I, ROBOT" anthology, which also served as the inspiration for our company name. Much like the movie's leading-edge special effects, U.S. Robotics has been at the forefront of modem technology by connecting users to the Internet for nearly three decades.

No.. GVC Rules. :Graucho

You could drop it like 100000 times on the floor and they would still work. :glugglug

EviLGuY 08-15-2004 03:34 PM

Yeah thats just the name Asimov used for the robotics company in his BOOK, way way back in the day.. then a technology company came along, the founders must have read the book and then they used that name for themselves.

wdsguy 08-15-2004 03:35 PM

I use to use a couple of their modems back in the days

Yup, I think that's it's actually US Robotics who bought the rights :1orglaugh I'm not a 100% sure about this though..

Doctor Dre 08-15-2004 03:45 PM

Yea I know somebody who probably has over 100 of them stored in a box arround his basement :P

tony286 08-15-2004 03:51 PM

That was commercial propaganda back then.. When I bought my 1200 bauds GVC modem in 1988 it lasted longer than most of my friend's US Robotics modems.. The stats sample was small, but it still convinced me that all the hype surrounding their modems was bullshit.
